First rail engine chugs off on Kanigiri railway tracks as SCR conducts maiden trial run
Vijayawada: The first rail engine chugged off on the railway tracks of the Kanigiri railway station as the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities conducted a maiden trial run using a diesel rail engine in Kanigiri, which is part of the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line. On Sunday, the railway authorities conducted the trial run from Nadikudi to Kanigiri railway station. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, along with Kanigiri MLA Ugra Narasimha Reddy and the railway authorities, inspected the trial run. The Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line has been a long-pending demand for the people of the Darsi, Podili, and Kanigiri constituencies. Ever since the TDP-led NDA govt came to power, the govt cleared the land acquisition hurdles and expedited the construction works on the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line. Currently, the works between the Kanigiri-Pamuru stretch are progressing at a brisk pace and are expected to be completed soon. AP Tobacco farmers seek relief, MSP guarantee; Minister Dola assures action
ONGOLE: Representatives of the AP Rythu Sangham and FCV tobacco farmers from Prakasam district met Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy on Sunday, seeking fair prices for their produce. The farmers submitted a memorandum at the minister's camp office and the MP's residence. Both leaders assured the farmers that they would take up the issue with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the Union government. Farmers said they are reeling under financial pressure due to low rainfall, reduced production, and low-grade crop quality. With an average market price of Rs 200 per kg, they estimate losses of Rs 5–6 lakh per barn. They urged both governments to release Rs 1,000 crore as immediate relief to ensure a minimum support price of Rs 200 per kg for low-grade stocks. They also requested the removal of penalties for additional tobacco production and called for the purchase of excess stock even after the stipulated quota is met. Dola said that he had directed the Tobacco Board not to collect penalties. The issue would be discussed with the Chief Minister and Cabinet for a suitable resolution, he added. Rythu Sangham district leaders Pamidi Venkata Rao, Jajjuru Jayanthi Babu, Abburi Venkateswarlu, and others were present.

Minister, MP explain govt's welfare initiatives to people
Kondapi: Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, and AP Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Sathya said that every step taken by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is dedicated to the welfare of the state's people. They participated in the 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' at Jarugumalli on Thursday, interacted with the residents by visiting door-to-door, and explained to them about the development and welfare initiatives undertaken by the coalition government over the past year. They praised the Chief Minister for working with the energy of a 20-year-old for the state's progress even at 70 years of recruitments for government jobs are being conducted alongside attracting new companies and investments, and creating employment opportunities for youth through industrial development. They mentioned that the construction of the Polavaram project and the development of Amaravati as the people's capital are progressing. The leaders said that the Deepam-2 scheme and Thalliki Vandanam programmes have been launched as part of the 'Super Six'. They claimed that 80 per cent of election promises have been fulfilled within one year, and announced the free bus travel for women and the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme for farmers to be launched in August.

About 11 lakh people participated in 11th Int'l Yoga Day in Prakasam dist
Ongole: About11 lakh people from various walks of life, including students, officials, public representatives, professionals, and common people, participated in 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at nearly 6,500 locations across Prakasam district on Saturday. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, Collector A Thameem Ansariya, Mayor Gangada Sujatha, and others participated in the district-level official programme held at Mini Stadium in Ongole. Speaking on the occasion, MP Srinivasulu Reddy stressed that yoga is a practice that unifies soul, mind, and body, urging everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for better health. He explained that the global celebration of International Yoga Day since June 21, 2014, was the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to share yoga's greatness and benefits with people worldwide. He highlighted Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's prestigious Yogandhra programme, aimed at bringing exceptional yoga knowledge to common people and making everyone healthy. He noted that with two crore people participating in yoga programs across the State at 1.5 lakh locations, Andhra Pradesh was poised to achieve a Guinness World Record. Collector Ansariya expressed special gratitude to officials from all departments, staff, public representatives, and yoga practitioners who contributed to the month-long Yogandhra festival in the district since May 21. MLA Janardhana Rao mentioned that awareness about yoga's benefits was created among people across all regions of the state for a month following the Chief Minister's directives. He emphasised the importance of daily yoga practice beyond this single day of celebration. At the programme held at police parade grounds in Ongole, SP AR Damodar, DSP R Srinivasa Rao, and other police officials participated in the IYD 2025 celebrations. SP Damodar emphasised that yoga practice is one of the primary ways to maintain health without spending any money. He highlighted that yoga is an integral part of Indian culture and represents one of India's valuable gifts to the world. He explained that yoga is not merely about physical postures but encompasses techniques that create balance between body and mind, enhancing one's ability to face life's challenges while improving health and concentration. Additional District Judge T Rajyalakshmi, Additional District Judges T Raja Venkatadri, A Purnima, P Lalita, Principal Senior Civil Judge S Hemalatha, Junior Civil Judges, Bar Association President Boddu Bhaskarao, Administrative Officer Prasannakumari, Superintendent Chakiri Sudhakar, senior advocates, and court staff participated at the celebrations of International Yoga Day in the District Court. The judicial officials underscored yoga's dual benefits of enhancing both physical wellness and mental resilience, reinforcing India's contribution to global health and wellness practices through this ancient discipline. Andhra Kesari University Vice-Chancellor Prof DVR Murthy said that yoga programmes enhance longevity and health for people of all ages without the need for medications during the grand 'Yogandhra' programme organised at University campus. AKU Registrar Professor B Haribabu,Patanjali Yoga Center Director Dr Ravipati Prasad Rao, attended the celebrations as chief guests.

NDA parties celebrate Good Governance anniversary
Ongole: The Telugu Desam Party, Jana Sena Party and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and workers actively participated in the celebration of the one year anniversary of the good governance in the state, marking completion of one year of assuming power by the NDA, while the YSR Congress Party observe Backstabbing Day alleging that the alliance government failed to fulfil the promises made to the public, even after completing one year in power, at all assembly constituencies in the district. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Jana Sena district president and Livestock Development Agency chairman Shaik Reyaz, Mayor Gangada Sujatha, PDCC Bank chairman Dr K Sitaramaiah, Janasena leader Kandi Ravi Sankar, and other TDP, JSP, and BJP leaders joined together at the NTR Statue at Addanki Bus Stand Centre in Ongole on Wednesday, and cut a cake as part of the celebration of the 'Good Governance' anniversary. They said that the NDA government under the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is providing welfare-based rule, and is addressing the public issues, while struggling to create revenue, bearing with thousands of crores of rupees' loan burden bestowed by the earlier YSRCP government. They assured that the Chandrababu Naidu government is known for the welfare and development of all sections in society, and announced that the Ammaku Vandanam, Annadatha, and the free travel for women in RTC buses would be launched very soon. Meanwhile, the YSRCP Prakasam district leaders organised rallies and submitted representations to the local tahsildars and RDOs at their respective headquarters of assembly constituencies. In Ongole, YSRCP in-charge Chuduri Ravi Babu and other leaders participated in a rally from the Ambedkar Bhavan to the RDO office and submitted a representation of demands to the officer. At Darsi, the local MLA and the district president, Dr Buchepalli Siva Prasad Reddy, ZP Chairperson Buchepalli Venkayamma, while at Yerragondapalem, the local MLA T Chandrasekhar and others conducted a rally and submitted the representation of demands.
