KMF launches new varieties of cakes and muffins

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), under its Nandini brand, introduced 18 new products across three categories - slice cake, bar cake and muffins - to the market on the occasion of World Milk Day celebrations on Sunday (June 1). Every year, to mark the occassion, milk unions across the State conduct awareness programmes in schools, anganwadis and even orphanages about milk. This year, KMF conducted a paneer cooking competition in the wake of rising cases of adulteration of paneer. More than 30 people from across the State participated in the competition and Mahalakshmi from Bengaluru was declared as the winner and was awarded a cash prize of ₹50,000. Vishika Keshav from Mangaluru came second and won a cash prize of ₹30,000 and a 13-year-old Vinodini. B., won the third place and a cash prize of ₹20,000 for her unique 'paneer bomb' recipe. Speaking during the celebrations, B. Shivaswamy, managing director, KMF said, 'The per capita milk consumption, according to our circulation data, is around 240 ml in Karnataka. We want to increase awareness about the benefits of milk consumption and encourage people to consumer milk be it as milk itself, curds or even ice cream.' While customers often complain about the availability of newly launched products, especially the whey protein based dosa and idli batter, the officials of KMF assured that the 18 new products are well in stock and will be available everywhere. 'We have begun placements since last week and they are available in all outlets,' an official said.

Mahalakshmi's qualities

When we look for precedents for any spiritual or religious observation, we look into the Itihasas and Puranas. But above all stand the Vedas. The Vedas are the ultimate authority when it comes to seeking validation for any philosophical statement. Sri Guna Ratna Kosam of Parasara Bhattar gives us Goddess Mahalakshmi's qualities. The Vedas are the source of this work, because all Her auspicious qualities find a place in the Vedas, said T.A.K. Srinivasacharya in a discourse. So, Parasara Bhattar speaks with the authority of the Vedas when he elaborates on Her kalyana gunas. Parasara Bhattar is following the path shown by sages like Vyasa, when he praises Mahalakshmi's gem-like qualities. Those who have earned Her blessings are fortunate, and those who have not are fools who misinterpret the Vedas and do not grasp its import. To envision Her innumerable qualities, one needs the special collyrium of bhakti. Mahalakshmi is the Goddess of the universe. It is not just the Upanishads that declare the greatness of Mahalakshmi. The Itihasas too extol Her. Even if everything that is good and auspicious in this world is put together, it will not equal even a small fraction of Mahalakshmi's wonderful qualities. You find a fortunate man seated on an elephant, beneath a pearl-studded umbrella. At the same time, you also see a poor man, dressed in worn-out and torn clothes. The reason for the difference in status of the two men is that while the former received the glances of the Goddess, the latter did not. Prosperity comes to a man only with Her grace.

Why was Hailey Bieber's Rhode acquired by Elf Beauty? Finance expert reveals reasons

Hailey Bieber's makeup and skincare brand, Rhode, is being sold to Elf Beauty for about $1 billion. On Wednesday, May 28, Elf said it would pay Rhode shareholders $800 million in a combination of cash and stock, along with an additional potential earnout consideration of $200 million – but it will be subject to some performance-related conditions. Sky Canaves, eMarketer analyst, said of the recent development, according to the New York Post, 'The Rhode deal is a bold move for e.l.f. into premium beauty at a time when the prestige side of the industry has lost some of its momentum as a result of consumers buying less or trading down.' Mahalakshmi C, a finance expert, has taken to Instagram to reveal what she believes are the reasons why Elf Beauty acquired Rhode. Her post is captioned, 'Celebrity brand acquisitions are usually structured this way: the celebrity continues to be a part of the company for a few years. We all know the celebrities and their personal brands play a huge role in growing these businesses. Ideally, the acquiring company will figure out a strategy to grow the brand independent of the celebrity over the next few years. In the meantime, the company is incentivised to keep performing well with a future payment - this is known as an earn-out. For Rhode, the acquisition was for $1bn, but $200mn will only be earned if the company hits certain targets over the next 3 years.' A post shared by Mahalakshmi C (@ca_maha_) Mahalakshmi's Instagram bio says 'MBA Dartmouth @tuckschool' and 'Ex- Venture Capital (yes, it was kinda like Shark Tank)'. Mahalakshmi listed the reasons, which are as follows:

Telangana government not sincere in fulfilling its declarations, says Harish Rao

HYDERABAD: Finding fault with the Congress government for failing to implement earlier declarations and coming out with a new one, BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao alleged that the government lacked sincerity in fulfilling its promises. In a statement on Monday, Harish Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who claims to hail from Nallamala, for allegedly ordering arrest of tribals while simultaneously announcing the Nallamala Declaration. 'Is this what you call Praja Palana?' Harish Rao questioned. He said the public was angry with the government for not honouring its assurances. 'Farmers are in a pathetic situation, forced to make repeated rounds to banks due to the government's failure to waive crop loans,' he said. He added that farmers who lost their crops at procurement centres or due to hailstorms were looking to the government for support. Harish Rao further pointed out that women were still waiting for the promised Rs 2,500 monthly support under the Mahalakshmi scheme. Parents of unmarried girls were awaiting the one tola gold, and girls were yet to receive the two-wheelers promised to them. Unemployed youth were eagerly waiting for notifications to fill two lakh government jobs, while students were hoping for Rs 5 lakh cards under the Vidya Bharosa scheme. He alleged that pensions had not been disbursed to physically handicapped persons, and government employees were still waiting for their DA installments and the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission. 'The government hasn't even absorbed RTC employees into regular government service,' he said. Harish Rao also criticised the chief minister for being inconsistent in his statements. 'The chief minister, who recently claimed that the state was bankrupt, is now saying that Telangana ranks number one in tax collections,' he said. 'Even the chameleons in the Nallamala forest are shocked at how frequently Revanth Reddy changes his colours,' he quipped.

Uphill task ahead for government gearing up to implement free bus travel scheme for women

The TDP-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to launch the the much-awaited 'free bus travel' scheme for women across the State on Independence Day. However, the initiative, which aims at improving women's mobility, comes with substantial financial implications for the State exchequer. The task of doing the spadework for the successful launch of the scheme awaits the government. Augmentation and strengthening of the existing fleet of buses in the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) besides recruiting additional staff is paramount for implementing the scheme. According to a preliminary estimates prepared by the State-run public transport organisation, the Corporation, which is already struggling with shortage of funds, will have to take an additional monthly burden of ₹265 crore (₹3,182 crore annually) if the new facility is introduced on Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, Express, Metro Express and City Ordinary buses. Under this scheme, the APSRTC may have to allocate 7,930 buses from its fleet for the free bus travel, besides requiring 2,045 additional buses and 11,479 additional staff, including 5,016 drivers, 5016 conductors and 1,447 maintenance staff. The number of women travellers daily is expected to go up from the existing 16.11 lakh to 26.95 lakh, an increase of 10.84 lakh if the proposal comes into effect. Should the Corporation chooses to have the free travel facility only on Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu and City Ordinary buses, it would cost the Corporation an additional ₹177 crore a month, running into an annual expenditure of ₹2,122 crore. In this scenario, the officials will have to deploy 6,136 buses, induct 1,684 additional buses and recruit 4,129 drivers, 4,129 conductors and 1,191 maintenance staff. In this case, the existing number of women travellers may go up from 14.30 lakh to 23.28 lakh, an increase of 8.89 lakh. 'We are looking at every aspect of the initiative to ensure that the launch and the subsequent implementation is smooth and efficient,' Minister for Transport M. Ramprasad told The Hindu on Sunday. Pointing out that a delegation of Ministers and officials, led by him, had travelled in the neighbouring states that are already implementing the scheme, he said the team members had observed certain aspects like an increase in traffic to pilgrim centres, a huge demand for operating bus services to the villages, which either did not have bus connection or bus services were discontinued, and the need to construct additional toilets for women in bus stations due to the swell in the crowd. Besides Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the south, Delhi and Punjab governments also permit women to travel for free on their respective State-run buses. In Telangana, the women travellers opting for the State transport corporation buses constituted 40%, but the number rose to 63 % (an increase by 23 %) after implementation of the 'Mahalakshmi' scheme, Karnataka saw women commuters increase from 40% to 55% under its 'Shakti' scheme, while in Tamil Nadu, the number of women travelling on that State RTC buses increased from 37% to 69% under its 'Vidiyal Payanam' scheme.
