CET cell launches online system to address excess fee complaints
Pune: Following rising complaints on excess fees charged by colleges, the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell on Saturday started an online mechanism for students seeking admission to professional courses in the academic year 2025–26. Following complaints on excess fees charged by colleges, Maharashtra CET Cell on Saturday started online mechanism for students seeking admission to professional courses in 2025–26. ((PIC FOR REPRESENTATION)) The decision comes after allegations that certain private institutes are flouting Fees Regulatory Authority (FRA) rules, often under misleading names such as 'maintenance fee', or 'lab maintenance charges'. According to a CET Cell official, students and parents report being pressured into paying additional amounts in order to secure or maintain admission. In some cases, students eligible for fee reimbursement under government schemes are charged the full amount, with no refunds provided later. 'CET Cell has implemented a dual-mode complaint system. Students can either call a helpline or can file a formal grievance online. No action will be taken on verbal complaints alone. Students must submit proof, such as fee receipts, notices, or written communication from the institution that reflects the excess amount collected,' the official said, adding that the complaint helpline will operate on working days between 10am and 6pm at 7700919894. Students can register complaints with details through the official CET portal

Maharashtra medical admissions: first round of seat allotment announced for UG courses
The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell seat allotment results for the first round of centralised medical admissions for undergraduate (UG) courses for the state quota seats witnessed a significant drop in cut-off scores for MBBS admissions in both government and private medical colleges. In government medical colleges, the cut-off score for MBBS admissions has fallen to 509 marks, down from 642 marks in the first round last year. In private medical colleges, the cut-off has dropped to 479, against 602 marks in 2024. Candidates, however, highlighted that this was an anticipated drop in the cut-off score due to the overall lower National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for Undergraduate (UG) scores this year — unlike the inflated scoring patterns observed last year. One candidate pointed out that there was score inflation in NEET UG last year due to a combination of factors. 'Unlike last year, when many students scored unusually high marks, this year's NEET UG results showed significantly lower scores. So, a drop in cut-off was expected. But this drop is still quite significant,' the candidate said. However, a parent representative Sudha Shenoy pointed out that this is a very low cut-off score in the past few years, especially in government medical colleges (GMC). 'Generally, private medical colleges would have a cut-off score around 509 for the first round of seat allotment. But this year, the same score is enough for a GMC seat in the first round,' said Shenoy. She attributed the change to a more streamlined admission process without any pending approvals for colleges or seats, this year. 'Last year there was chaos due to pending approvals for seats, despite inclusion of those seats in the seat matrix,' she said. As per the seat allotment for the first round of medical UG admissions by the Maharashtra CET Cell, a total of 10,815 candidates were allotted seats in this round, including 8,106 for MBBS and 2,709 for BDS. Students have until August 22 to confirm admission on their allotted seats. The total number of UG medical seats under the state quota stands at 10,856, comprising 8,138 MBBS seats and 2,718 BDS seats.

Currently, the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, with registrations currently open on the Maharashtra CET Cell website for MBA at Candidates seeking admission to MBA, MMS programmes in over 300 management institutes across Maharashtra are required to complete the CAP Round 2025 registration by July 8, 2025. As part of the counselling process, applicants will fill out an online form, upload required documents, and select their preferred colleges for seat allotment. Here's the detailed process and counselling schedule — – Applications after 08 July 2025 for Non-CAP seats only. – Confirmations after 09 July 2025 for Non-CAP seats only. The MAH MBA CET 2025 counselling process is conducted entirely online and involves several stages. Depending on the selected document verification mode, the process will proceed in one of two ways: E-Scrutiny or Physical Scrutiny. In the E-Scrutiny mode, candidates do not need to physically visit a centre. Their applications and uploaded documents are verified remotely by Facilitation Centres (FCs). If the verification is successful, the candidate will receive a confirmation receipt in their login. In case of errors, the application will be sent back for correction, and the candidate must rectify and will be required to re-submit it online. However candidates opting for Physical Scrutiny must visit their chosen facilitation centre at the allotted time slot. There, they will complete the application, scan and upload documents, and have their submissions verified in person. Upon confirmation, a receipt cum acknowledgement will be issued. Additionally, candidates applying under institutional quota or non-CAP seats must also register and verify documents through an FC, however, they will need to apply separately to the respective institutions for admission. Special provisions exist for migrant candidates from the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, who must register and verify their documents at SIMSREE, Mumbai, before approaching allotted institutes for admission under their quota.
