Fadnavis inaugurates 2 key road over bridges in Mumbai, Titwala

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday opened two road-over-bridge (ROB) projects—one at Reay Road in Mumbai and the other at Titwala in the Kalyan-Dombivli area—with an aim to enhance east-west connectivity and decongest traffic in two highly populated areas. While Fadnavis inaugurated the six-lane Reay Road cable-stayed ROB in person, he virtually inaugurated the four-lane Titwala bridge from the Reay Road site in front of local authorities and officials. The Reay Road ROB, constructed at a cost of Rs 273 crore, is the first cable-stayed road-over-bridge within Mumbai's suburban zone. Built by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation, also known as MahaRail for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the 385-metre long bridge connects Byculla and Mazgaon over the Harbour Line between Reay Road and Dockyard Road stations. The bridge is fitted with architectural LED lighting and a bridge health monitoring system and is planned to cut down travel time during peak hours. Speaking at the inauguration, Fadnavis said, 'This is a first-of-its-kind cable stayed bridge in Mumbai that was built in record time by the MahaRail, which is going to benefit many commuters. Likewise, we have also inaugurated Titwala ROB which is equally significant. With MahaRail, we have plans to inaugurate 25 such ROBs in the coming days.' The Titwala ROB, financed by the MMRDA and constructed by MahaRail, was also inaugurated for public use. The 820-metre long bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 100 crore, has four lanes and links Ambivli to Kalyan through Shree Siddhivinayak Ganesh Mandir. The bridge replaces a congested level crossing near Titwala railway station, which affected more than 50 train services per day. The ROB will also help to reduce congestion and travelling time for both rail and road. Service roads with dedicated use on both sides have been provided so that vehicles can move smoothly during rush hours.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis to inaugurate two new road over bridges at Reay Road, Titwala

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate two new Road Over Bridges (ROB) — at Reay Road and Titwala — on Tuesday. The 383-metre Reay Road ROB, is Mumbai's first land-based cable-stayed bridge and will connect Mahul road near the Eastern Freeway to Barrister Nath Pai Marg in Byculla. Built at a cost of Rs 273 crore, this six-lane bridge will ease traffic on Byculla-Mazgaon route, offering a much-needed east-west connectivity across the congested Harbour railway line, saving up to 30 minutes of commuters' time. Work on the bridge began in February 2022 and was finished in two years. It was constructed by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation. The 820-metre long Titwala ROB is a four-lane flyover at the new Titwala Railway Station on the Kalyan Ring Road. Jointly developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at a cost of Rs 100 crore, the bridge will enhance traffic flow between Ambivili and Kalyan, particularly near the famous Shree Siddhivinayak Ganesh Mandir that attracts thousands of pilgrims. One of the key benefits of the Titwala ROB is that it will eliminate the need for level crossing gates that open and close over 25 times a day. The continuous stopping of trains and vehicles results in delays to over 50 train services every day by as much as 10 minutes each. With the ROB in operation, both road and rail traffic will be able to travel without any hindrance. 'The Reay Road bridge will benefit commercial vehicles, ambulances and daily office-goers who used to face long detours or jam-packed roads to cross the railway line. In Titwala, the new ROB will provide access between townships and also enable Mumbaikars to visit the temple town with ease,' an MRIDC official said.
