Nagpur: The city is witnessing a significant infrastructure boom, with several major projects progressing simultaneously. In a major development, two new flyovers are set to open to the public in the coming days, promising much-needed relief from traffic congestion in East Nagpur. The two flyovers — one from Itwari to Bhandewadi (Road over Bridge or RoB), and another from Lakadganj police station to Wardhaman Nagar — are expected to decongest these busy areas and substantially reduce travel time.
Both projects were constructed by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), also known as MahaRail, as part of their ongoing multi-crore infrastructure drive in the city. The flyovers were initiated following consistent efforts by East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde and are expected to significantly benefit local residents and commuters.According to MRIDC sources, the first flyover — connecting Lakadganj Police Station and Wardhaman Nagar — is built along Old Bhandara Road. "The flyover was constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹135 crore, fully funded by the urban development department of the Maharashtra government. It is a two-lane structure and most of the work has already been completed," the sources said.Spanning 1.37 km, the flyover will connect two densely populated areas that frequently experience traffic jams due to a high concentration of shops and commercial establishments. "The construction was completed ahead of schedule," added the sources. The second project — a Road over Bridge (RoB) — spans the Nagbhid section of the South East Central Railway at Dipti Signal. "This RoB connects Itwari to Bhandewadi. The main portion is fully constructed, while an additional arm towards Kalamna is still under construction and will require another one and a half months to complete," said MRIDC officials. The 722-metre-long RoB was built at a cost of approximately ₹50 crore, fully funded under the Setu Bandhan Scheme of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The structure features two lanes and two arms for better connectivity. With structural work on both flyovers now complete, final finishing touches are underway. MRIDC is planning an official inauguration, expected to take place either by the end of this month or early next month.

PM Modi increased Kerala's railway budget to Rs 3,042 crore: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government has increased Kerala's railway budget from an average of Rs 372 Crore (2009-14) to Rs 3,042 crore in the financial year 2025-26, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. 'PM Narendra Modi Ji has increased Kerala's railway budget from an average Rs372 Cr (2009-14) to Rs3,042 Cr in FY 2025-26. We are working on 3rd and 4th line from North to South Kerala, so that both passengers and cargo can move by rail,' Vaishnaw said in a post X. Vaishnaw said that he discussed key projects with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and sought his support for land acquisition, especially for Angamaly-Erumeli railway project and Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB) being sanctioned. The Angamaly-Erumeli railway project, also known as Sabari rail project was first proposed in the Railway Budget of 1997-98. The land acquisition for the project was completed too. The Kerala CM has earlier said that the expansion of the Sabari rail project would provide a significant boost to Kerala's development, while also suggesting that it could be extended in the future to connect Vizhinjam. In December, an official statement from the Kerala CM's office said that the project would be implemented in two phases with an expanded approach, with the state government requesting the Centre's approval, and 50 per cent of the cost of the project will be borne by the state government. The section's plan included the construction of two flyovers and two underpasses. However, land acquisition notifications have now been issued for the next 70 km. A letter from the Railways dated 26.09.2019 informed the state government that the project had been frozen, leading to a halt in further construction activities, including the flyovers. Although the project initially began with full funding from the Railways, on January 7, 2021, the Kerala Government conveyed to the Central Government its readiness to bear 50 per cent of the project cost, then estimated at Rs 2,815 crore, through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). CRDA to begin final phase of IRR in Guntur

Guntur: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is set to launch the third phase of Inner Ring Road (IRR) construction in Guntur city at an estimated cost of 50 crore. With the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) clearing encroachments along the 4.5-km stretch, CRDA is now preparing to invite tenders for the road development. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The final phase of IRR, stalled for nearly 20 years, aims to ease traffic congestion by allowing heavy vehicles from Palnadu district to access National Highway-65 without entering the city. Initially conceptualized in 2005 by the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM UDA) — CRDA's predecessor — the IRR was designed to connect Perecharla (western Guntur) with NH-65 (eastern Guntur near Autonagar) through an 11-km four-lane highway. Due to land acquisition challenges, the project was executed in phases, with only 7 km completed over the past two decades. Despite multiple government transitions, the final phase remained incomplete. Following the TDP-led NDA assuming power, Union minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar took the initiative to push CRDA authorities to complete the IRR, addressing Guntur's growing traffic woes. Dr. Pemmasani also secured four Railway Over Bridge (ROB) projects, including one linked to the IRR, from the Union highways and road transport ministry. With the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) now preparing to begin ROB work, CRDA is keen to accelerate the final phase of IRR development. "We have cleared encroachments and distributed TDR bonds to affected property owners. The road markings are complete, and now it's over to CRDA to proceed with development," said GMC commissioner Puli Srinivasulu.

Southern Railway gears up to start construction of ROB near AFT mills

With the shifting of temporary bus stand from the Anglo French Textile (AFT) mills ground, the Southern Railway held preliminary consultations with the District Administration to work out modalities before taking up the ₹72-crore project to construct a two-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) at the level crossing near AFT mills on the arterial Cuddalore Road. Of the total cost for constructing the ROB, around ₹52 crore will be utilised from the Smart City fund and ₹19 crore will be incurred by the Railways. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had laid the foundation for the construction of the 630-metre-long ROB in December last year. But the railways could not go ahead with the works since at that point, the Puducherry Municipality had shifted bus operations temporarily to the AFT mills ground to facilitate the reconstruction of Rajiv Gandhi Bus Terminus on Maraimalaiadigal Salai. The reconstructed terminus has now been opened for bus services paving the way for railways to begin construction work for the ROB. A meeting was chaired by Sub Collector (Revenue), North, Ishita Rathi on May 6 with stakeholders, including officials from the Southern Railway, to discuss various aspects regarding the construction work, precautionary measures and traffic arrangements needed for smooth execution of the project. Officials of the District Administration and the Southern Railway inspected the project site for making an on-the-spot assessment on May 8, a government official told The Hindu. At the meeting, a representative of the Southern Railway has informed that the ROB would start from a point in the middle of Providence Mall and end before the AFT mills road on Puducherry-Cuddalore Road. Service roads, measuring 4 metre, have been proposed on both sides of the bridge and the two existing gates of the court complex would have direct access to a pass beneath the proposed ROB. The railway officials have clarified at the meeting that one subway would also be provided on the western side of the bridge, the official said. Before the Southern Railway commences work, the District Administration will have to shift the autorickshaw stand, parking of two-wheelers, mini lorries and temporary shops on the stretch from Venkatasubba Reddiyar Statue to the Court Complex. Concerns of commuters The stretch from Venkatasubba Reddiyar Statue to the level crossing houses several important venues, including District Court, Forest Department office, Mall, a Church, hospital, and a newspaper office. 'The construction of the ROB is a very important step towards decongesting the stretch. The closure of the railway gate during peak hours was a big hindrance. It has been one of our long pending demands to have a bridge so that there will be free movement of vehicles during the passing of trains. Our only request to the administration is to provide road shoulders on either side during the construction phase to allow us a way to reach our office,' said a court employee. According to an official, a request was made at the meeting for construction of a temporary service road for the court and forest office staff. The Southern Railway has agreed to construct road shoulders and erect temporary barricades on both sides of the road to facilitate vehicle movement during construction. Retrofitting work on The PWD and traffic personnel have informed the railways about the retrofitting work being undertaken on 100 feet road and the traffic diversions in force. The closure of the stretch from Venkatasubba Reddiar Statue now to facilitate the ROB construction would require vehicles to be diverted through Point Care Street and 100 feet road. 'The 100 feet road over bridge is already congested as we are allowing vehicles only on one side due to the retrofitting work. If the stretch along the court is entirely closed for ROB work, vehicles will have to be diverted through Point Care Street and 100 feet road. The retrofitting work will be completed in a month and henceforth the railways could accordingly start the ROB work,' a PWD official said.
