Mahreen, Arshvant finish as top Indians at US Kids World Teen Golf
Pinehurst (US), July 27 (PTI) Mahreen Bhatia, who was tied fourth, and Arvshvant Srivastava, who was tied-sixth, were the top Indians in the Girls and Boys sections in Category 15-18 at the US Kids World Teen Championship here. A total of six Indians played this week and four players finished in the Top-10. Arshvant and Vihaan Jain, both in Boys 15-18, were Tied-6 and Tied-10, while Mahreen Bhatia (71-67-75) was 3-under and T-4 and Ayesha Gupta (73-73-71) was 1-over and T-9. Asara Sawhney (74-75-74) was T-27. In the Girls 13, Anushka Gupta, sister of Ayesha Gupta (Girls 15-18), carded her best of the week with 73 and was 11-over and Tied-11th. Arshvant produced his best round of the week with a 2-uner 70 that included a birdie and an eagle in the last five holes to finish with an even par total as he was the best Indian among Boys 15-18. Arshvant, who gave away a triple bogey after the ball got stuck in tree root in the third round, had four birdies and an eagle in the third and final round. He also dropped four bogeys. With earlier rounds of 71-75-70, he finished at even par 216 for three days. Also in the Boys 15-18, Vihaan Jain, who shot 67 in the first round, finished with 72 in the final round and he was 1-over for three rounds and was T-10. Only five players finished under par and the winner was Jace Benson (US), who shot 71-69-71 for 5-under and he won the tie-breaker ahead of Americans Clint Bailey and Nakul Shrivastatva who also shot 5-under totals. In Girls 15-18, Mahreen had three birdies against four bogeys. She dropped two bogeys in the first three holes and again two bogeys in the last three holes. Ayesha 73-73-71) was 1-over and T-9 and Asara (74-75-74) was T-27 in the Girls 15-18. Mahreen's fourth place was the first time she missed being in the Top-3 in the last three years. She was runner-up once and third on another occasion. India's Mahreen Bhatia lies second in US Kids World Teen Championship
Last Updated: Pinehurst (USA), Jul 26 (PTI) India's Mahreen Bhatia, who has finished on the podium a few times in the last two years, looked set for another fine finish as she shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 to move into second place after two rounds in the girls' 15-18 category at the US Kids World Teen Championship here. There is one more round to go. Mahreen, a medallist at various international events, had three birdies against two bogeys in the first round, but she was in great form in the second round as she birdied five times without dropping a shot. She birdied the second, fourth, sixth, eighth and the 14th holes to take her total to 6-under 138 at Pinehurst 5 course. Mahreen's 67 was the day's equal-best round alongside leader, USA's Kady Matsumoto (68-67). In the boys' 15-18, Vihaan Jain, who was the leader with 67, suffered a dramatic drop with a second-round 78 that saw him slip to T-13. In the first round he had six birdies against one bogey, while in the second he had just one birdie against seven bogeys for a 6-over. Arshvant Srivastava, a regular on the the US Kids World Championship, suffered a triple bogey in his second round but fought back to card 3-over 75 after a first round 71. At 2-over he is T-20, down from T-9 after the first day. Two other two Indians in the girls' 15-18 category, Ayesha Gupta (73-73) and Asara Sawhney (74-75), were T-12th and T-24th respectively. Mahreen, Arshvant lead Indian challenge a US Kids World Teen Golf Cship
Pinehurst (PTI), Jul 23 (PTI) Two of India's most decorated teenage golfers, Mahreen Bhatia and Arshvant Srivastava will lead the Indian challenge at this week's US Kids World Teen Championship at the iconic Pinehurst, North Carolina. The US Kids India team has six players in this year's edition of the annual World Teens event. There are two players in the Boys 15-18 and four in Girls 15-18 and all have good experience in and out of India. Mahreen was third at the 2024 edition and runner-up in 2023 and is aiming to get to the top. In the past year, her achievements also include a win at the 2024 Shubhankar Sharma Invitationals and she was second at the 2024 at the Tommy Fleetwood International Pathway Series Pres by DP and also won the FCG Callaway World Juniors in the US in July last year. She was also in the Top-5 of the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final. Arshvant comes in with a lot of experience from US Kids events in the past few years and has two good wins on domestic circuit in 2024 at the NCR Cup Juniors and the Greens to Glory event and was the runner-up at US Kids Indian Championship. This season he has had Top-5 finishes in US Kids China, US Kids Thailand and the Faldo Series Asia Grand final and was seventh in the US Kids UAE. Vihaan Jain played the 2024 US Kids World Teens in 2024 and was T-13 with Arshvant also in the field. Asara Sawhney was T-7 in 2024 US Kids, while Anushka Gupta and Ayesha Gupta also hold a lot of promise. The week after the US Kids Teen Championship, India will be fielding a 14-member squad at the US kids for ages 6 and above and the event will be held at Pinehurst.
