"The equipment is safe and requires only servicing. Other facilities like electricity, water supply too are not an issue," Mahto said. "We are planning to restart the lab within 15 days," he added. Mahto and Kumar also discussed the prospect of setting up a separate outpatient department (OPD) for attending to patients with influenza like illnesses and severely acute respiratory infections, considered the early symptoms for suspected Covid 19 patients. Kumar said all the hospital staff have been directed to document the names and contact numbers with such symptoms. "There is no shortage of PPE kits and medicines," he said.

Circle inspector held for taking Rs3L as bribe

Madhubani: Jayanagar circle inspector (CI) Ajay Kumar Mandal was caught on Saturday morning while accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh. A vigilance department team from Patna arrested him at his rented residence in Chitragupt Colony at Jayanagar around 7am. The operation, led by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sujit Kumar Sagar, was based on a complaint filed by Indrajeet Kumar Mahto, a resident of Jayanagar. Mahto alleged that Mandal had demanded Rs 20 lakh to facilitate the mutation (dakhil kharij) of his two-katha land near the new Kamla Barrage, valued at around Rs 2 crore. Following the complaint, the vigilance department registered a case on May 21. After verification, DSP Sagar's team organised a trap and intercepted Mandal as he accepted Rs 3 lakh in cash as an advance from Mahto. The DSP said preliminary inquiries suggest Mandal may not have been acting alone. "The demand for such a large bribe amount raises questions and further investigation will uncover the involvement of many others," Sagar said. The vigilance team seized the cash and took Mandal to the Jayanagar inspection building for questioning where key information was obtained. He has since been taken to Patna for further investigation. Mandal hails from Tapua village in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur.

I suggested naming of BBMKU after Binod Bihari Mahto: Hemant

1 2 Dhanbad: Unveiling the statue of Jharkhand statehood movement leader and founding member of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Binod Bihari Mahto at the Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University ( BBMKU ) here on Monday jointly with governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, chief minister Hemant Soren said the govt's decision to establish the university in 2014 was a landmark step to help students of Dhanbad to study higher education in their own district. Hemant recalled Mahto as a noted educationist of the state and said naming the university was a fitting tribute to the late JMM leader . "Earlier, students were forced to travel long distances for academic work. Now, that is over. I also suggested naming the university after Binod Bihar Mahto when it was founded in 2017," Hemant said. Speaking on the occasion, governor Gangwar, who is also the chancellor of state universities, expressed dissatisfaction over the standard of higher education in Jharkhand, saying the benchmark remains below expectations and making the students seek opportunities in other states. "The crisis of faculty members is also a major issue in the state's universities. JPSC has been instructed to begin the recruitment process for teachers," the governor added. Several dignitaries, including Giridih MP Chandraprakash Chaudhry, ministers Sudvya Kumar MLA Jaimangal Singh, Raj Sinha, Jairam Mahto, Arup Chatterjee, Mathura Prasad Mahto, Shatrughan Mahto, Umakant Rajak and Chandradeo Mahto, were present at the event. Welcoming the guests, the vice chancellor of the university, Ramkumar Singh, recalled Mahto's contribution to education and society. Students organised cultural performances and sang the university's 'Kulgeet' (anthem) as part of the programme. Meanwhile, Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha slammed Hemant for taking credit of establishing BBMKU. Speaking after the statue unveiling ceremony, Sinha said the university was established during the tenure of former BJP CM Raghubar Das. "Hemant is spreading lies. The university was set up when Raghubar Das was in office. In fact, it was I who suggested naming the university after Binod Bihari Mahto," Sinha claimed and accused the CM of making politically motivated statements. "It seems the CM is delivering a speech at an election rally rather than addressing a formal event," he added.
