Shilpa Shirodkar recalls being labelled ‘panauti' after her first 2 films were shelved: ‘Whenever I signed a big film…'

Not every actor finds an easy path into the film industry, and Shilpa Shirodkar's early years in Bollywood were marked by setbacks and harsh labels. In an interview with Zoom, the actor, best known for her roles in Kishen Kanhaiya and Hum, spoke candidly about being labelled jinxed after two of her initial projects fell through before they could go on floors. (Also Read: Shilpa Shirodkar reveals looking for work before Bigg Boss 18: But people were not ready to even meet me) Shilpa recalled what was meant to be a dream launch in 1986 with filmmaker Sawan Kumar Tak's Sautan Ki Beti, which never saw the light. 'On the 9th of August, I did my Mahurat at Filmalaya Studios. It was one of the biggest launch pads. Sawan ji was making Sautan Ki Beti, and I was playing the title role. It couldn't have been bigger than that. But two years later, nothing had happened. Sawan ji said, 'I'm not making the film. If you get something from outside, take it,' she shared. Following that, her mother reached out to photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha, who connected her with Boney Kapoor and Surinder Kapoor for a film. She said that Boney's father liked her and promised to cast her opposite Sanjay Kapoor in a film called Jungle. But they dropped that idea and decided to make Prem instead, and she didn't fit the role. That film also slipped out of her hands. Shilpa added that industry insiders began gossiping about her string of missed opportunities, following which a well-wisher approached Mithun Chakraborty. 'He said, 'Dada, this girl's two films have been shelved and now the industry is calling her all sorts of names—please launch her.' They said I was jinxed, a panauti. Whenever I signed a big film, it got shelved. But if you have strong family support, these things don't matter.' Eventually, Shilpa made her acting debut in Ramesh Sippy's Bhrashtachar in 1989, starring alongside Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha, where she portrayed a blind girl. The film earned her recognition, and she soon appeared in hits like Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Trinetra (1991), and Hum (1991). Her filmography went on to include notable titles such as Khuda Gawah, Aankhen, Pehchaan, Gopi Kishan, Bewafa Sanam, and Mrityudand.

POLL RESULT: Kartik Aaryan in messy or short hair, fans pick their favorite look of the star and we can't agree more

It wouldn't be wrong to say that Kartik Aaryan is hands down one of the busiest actors in Bollywood. He will be sporting a messy look for his musical romantic with Sreeleela while a short hair look for his upcoming rom-com, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. Recently, we hosted a poll to determine the actor's favorite look, and no wonder that the majority of the fans voted for his short hair look. Check out the results A poll was conducted on May 23 after Kartik Aaryan announced shooting for Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. Now that the result of the poll hosted is out, one can clearly see his short hair look has gained the majority number of votes, i.e., 76.67%, whereas his look in messy hair secured only 23.33% of votes. Announcing the commencement of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri shoot, the actor shared a series of pictures from Europe. In a multi-picture post, he posted an image of the clapboard from the Mahurat shoot. It also included a few images of his trimmed hair lying on the floor. "Ray is Raydyyyy #TuMeriMainTeraMainTeraTuMeri," he wrote in the caption accompanying the post. Notably, the romantic-comedy was announced last year in December by the team on social media. This marks the first ever collaboration between Aaryan and Karan Johar after their fallout on Dostana 2. Directed by Satyaprem Ki Katha fame Sameer Vidwans, the film is backed by Dharma Productions. It is set to release next year on February 13, 2026. Meanwhile, the Naagzilla actor has sported a messy hair look for his upcoming musical romantic alongside Sreeleela. Dhanush starrer Kalam to be shot in Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi, deets inside

Actor Dhanush is set to play the lead role in the upcoming biopic of the late APJ Abdul Kalam, who was the 11th President of India. The announcement was made at Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, much to the joy of the fans. Now, we have exclusively learnt that the shooting of the film which is yet to go on floors will take place in several locations including Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu, places where Dr Kalam was born and raised. Producer Abhishek Agarwal is "thrilled" to bring the story to audience. He tells us, "Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam ji's remarkable journey began in the culturally rich yet rural town of Rameswaram. His father owned a boat that ferried Hindu pilgrims between Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi — locations that hold deep spiritual and historical significance. It will be truly exciting to see these iconic places come alive on screen." Also Read| Dhanush's production house to seek ₹1 crore in damages from Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan; alleges unprofessionalism He adds, 'We have multiple locations in mind for the shoot to authentically capture each phase of his incredible story. The journey is vast, and so will be the canvas on which we bring it to life.' A post shared by Dhanush (@dhanushkraja) The film, which will be helmed by Om Raut, will only go on floors after the Mahurat shoot, which is expected to take place soon. As for the budget of the film, Abhishek doesn't want to limit the creativity. A post shared by Abhishek Agarwal (@abhishekofficl) "I've never been someone who believes in chasing a film's success through its budget. In fact, The Kashmir Files was a small film that turned into a blockbuster purely because of the audience. A similar story unfolded with Karthikeya 2. While The Kashmir Files created history, Karthikeya 2, despite being made on a modest budget, was embraced as a pan-India film — again, solely because of the audience," he says, adding, "That's why, when it comes to this film, we are not thinking in terms of budget right now. We're committed to doing everything this story demands, without cutting corners. No compromises— that's our promise." The producer shares why Dhanush is the perfect choice for the film: "What can one say about an actor who has already won 4 National Awards and 8 Filmfare Awards? He disappears into every role he takes on, whether playing a young man, an old soul, or even dual characters. He excels effortlessly, again and again. With both Dhanush and Dr. Kalam hailing from Tamil Nadu, it will be thrilling not just for fans, but for all of us, to witness him portraying one of India's most revered figures," Abhishek concludes.
