Launch Of National Month 2025 Brings Income Boost For Small Traders In Muar
MUAR, July 26 (Bernama) -- Thousands of visitors thronged Dataran Tanjung Emas here for the three-day event held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign, creating a ripple effect of economic benefits for the local community.
The national-level programme held over the weekend delivered a direct economic boost to homestay operators, food vendors and small traders, many of whom saw demand surge and sales triple compared to regular days.
Homestay operator Nur Athirah Badlishah, 31, said all her units had been fully booked a month before the programme due to strong demand from guests travelling from outside Muar.
'I got a lot of calls asking about homestays, but mine were already full. So I suggested a few run by friends to make sure visitors had a place to stay.
'The response this time was extraordinary. Alhamdulillah, we were able to earn some extra income through this programme,' she told Bernama.
Meanwhile, 54-year-old nasi campur seller Maimon Abdullah said her sales had almost tripled following a sudden surge in customers since yesterday.
'Yesterday, all the dishes were sold out before 3 pm, so I cooked double today to make sure no one went home disappointed,' she said, adding that some of her customers had come all the way from Singapore for the event.
Local fruit trader Lim Kok Wah, 49, said he had to extend his business hours until late at night to keep up with the overwhelming demand.
'Sales this morning alone went up by over 40 per cent compared to a normal day. I'll keep the stall open until 11 pm for these two days as the response has been amazing,' he said.
