MGK reinvents himself on new album Lost Americana, featuring narration by Bob Dylan
Machine Gun Kelly switches lanes again on his new album, Lost Americana. Released on Friday (08.08.25), the rapper-turned-rocker proves he's no one-trick-pony as he traverses genres on the follow-up to 2022's Mainstream Sellout. Best known for his rap beginnings and two chart-topping pop-punk albums — Tickets to My Downfall and Mainstream Sellout — the 35-year-old artist steps into new territory with a sound that draws on country, folk and classic heartland rock influences. MGK - whose real name is Colson Baker - previously told People of not wanting to be pigeonholed: 'I choose to not stay contained in a societal box. 'All I do is entertain, and entertainment can't be that serious.' The LP was first teased in June with a cinematic trailer narrated by none other than Bob Dylan. In the clip, the folk legend described the record as 'a sonic map of forgotten places, a tribute to the spirit of reinvention and a quest to reclaim the essence of American freedom.' Dylan, 84, said: 'From the glow of neon diners to the rumble of the motorcycles, this is music that celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces. "Where the past is reimagined, and the future is forged on your own terms.' Initially, fans questioned whether Dylan's voice in the teaser was legit — but during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, MGK confirmed it was indeed the Like a Rolling Stone hitmaker. He said: 'To be honest, I have no idea how he even knows who I am. 'And I'm pretty sure if I say the wrong thing I'll mess it all up, so I'll just shut up and accept whatever Bob Dylan throws my way.' The narration came after Dylan posted a clip of MGK performing on his Instagram in February, leaving the music world stunned. Lost Americana is out now on all major streaming platforms.

MGK Says His Haters Are Just ‘Conformists' Who Pretend to Dislike Him to ‘Fit In'
MGK pays no mind to the people who would gladly purchase tickets to his downfall, as the musician born Colson Baker — and formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly — has revealed that he thinks his haters are merely 'conformists' who can't think for themselves. In an interview with People published Wednesday (Aug. 6) ahead of his new album Lost Americana, MGK opened up about why he isn't bothered by his critics. 'The hate for me has become so pop culture that it's almost like that's automatically what you say to fit in,' he told the publication. 'I've let it go completely to where I'm like, 'Oh, that's a joke.' I've realized they're the conformists — you don't even hate me for a reason that you can actually think of, because all I do is entertain, and entertainment can't be that serious.' The rapper-turned-rocker went on to note that most of the hate he gets comes from men. 'I think men let their insecurity rule their entirety,' he mused. 'I think to them, they're like, 'He's supposed to be like this, because this is this carnal, archaic way of what men are …' I'm like, 'Look, we can be protectors and all these other things that we're supposed to be, and also be expressive and vulnerable and emotional, and we can dress how we want, look how we want.'' The interview comes just two days before Lost Americana is set to arrive, with MGK appearing to embrace a rootsier musical sound on the LP after previously cutting his teeth on rap music before pivoting to punk rock on albums Tickets to My Downfall and Mainstream Sellout. To promote the record, the Cleveland-bred musician enlisted one of Americana's biggest heroes, Bob Dylan, to narrate a trailer that dropped in June. At the time, it was unclear whether it was actually Dylan's voice in MGK's video — but on a recent late-night appearance, the latter confirmed that it was authentic. 'To be honest, I have no idea how he even knows who I am to this day,' MGK said on The Tonight Show on Monday (Aug. 4). 'Something's going on in the stars where, like, good things keep happening … I don't know how it keeps happening.' MGK's experimentation with various genres over the course of his career is one of several reasons why he thinks certain people hate him without actual cause. But as he said to People, he just doesn't care: 'I became so hated for, what has become apparent to me, no reason … just because I artistically express myself, through fashion, music, whatever.' He added, 'I choose to not stay contained into a societal box.' Machine Gun Kelly drops new single 'vampire diaries'
Machine Gun Kelly has unveiled his latest single, "Vampire Diaries," a track from his upcoming album Lost Americana. Produced by Travis Barker, the guitar-driven song is accompanied by a unique music video where MGK dances through a natural history museum, despite the absence of any vampires. The video, directed by Sam Cahill, features choreography by Sean Bankhead, who previously worked on MGK's hit "Cliché." Lost Americana is set for release on August 8 and serves as the follow-up to his 2022 album Mainstream Sellout. The album's lead single, "Cliché," dropped earlier this summer. Fans can pre-order Lost Americana ahead of its global release. In celebration of the album's release, MGK will host a three-day event in Cleveland, Ohio, from August 8-10, marking MGK Day. The event will feature a mix of music, art, community engagement, and philanthropy to honor the artist's local influence. The Cleveland-native also made headlines with an acoustic version of "Cliché," dubbed the "sad version." Known for his genre-defying style, MGK has seen major success with past projects like Tickets to My Downfall, which topped the Billboard 200 in 2020, and his Grammy-nominated album Mainstream Sellout. Both albums solidified his place as a prominent figure in the rock and pop-punk scenes.

Machine Gun Kelly gets music legend to introduce his new album
Bob Dylan appears to have narrated the trailer for Machine Gun Kelly's forthcoming album, Lost Americana. After the 84-year-old music legend surprised fans by sharing footage of the rap rocker, 35, on his Instagram in February, he's played a part in the unveiling of Colson Baker's first album since 2022's Mainstream Sellout. In the clip, Dylan (as sources confirmed to Variety) says of the collection: 'It's a sonic map of forgotten places, a tribute to the spirit of reinvention and a quest to reclaim the essence of American freedom. 'From the glow of neon diners to the rumble of the motorcycles, this is music that celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces. Where the past is reimagined, and the future is forged on your own terms.' In the video, MGK is seen having fun with friends and hanging out in the mountains. Earlier this year, Dylan shared a clip of MGK performing acoustically at Park Ave CDs store in Orlando, Florida. The Rap Devil star then got to meet the 'Like a Rolling Stone' hitmaker, 'all because of a video of me rapping in a music store 10 years ago." He joined Dylan onstage at Willie Nelson's Outlaw Music Festival Tour stop in Los Angeles with Billie Strings, John Stamos, and Johnny Knoxville. After the appearance, he penned on X: 'i met and had a conversation with someone last night that i never thought i'd get the honor to meet all because of a video of me rapping in a music store 10 years ago. i love music. (sic)" Lost Americana is set to be released on August 8.
