Medical Schools' Standards Aren't Slipping
Some U.S. medical schools are admitting and graduating unqualified individuals, Jason Riley argues in 'Medical Schools Quietly Maintain Affirmative Action' (Upward Mobility, July 23). The data say otherwise: From admission to graduation, and through residency training and medical licensing, physician standards are comprehensive, demanding and as strong as ever.
Competitive MCAT scores and strong grades are essential prerequisites that all qualified applicants must meet. No one, regardless of race or background, can practice medicine in the U.S. without demonstrating the competence to do so.
