Mairéad O'Driscoll, professional tax advisor AKA The Tax Nerd joins me on this week's episode of The Real Health podcast to demystify tax.
One of the items I wanted to get to is medical expenses and it turns out you can claim back a lot. The Tax Nerd told me, 'If you have any health expenses, you're entitled to 20% of the cost back. It's on obvious things like going to the GP for checkups, hospital visits but you also get it on monthly prescriptions. Any prescription at all.'
Navigating the Revenue website can be fear inducing but the tax advisor said it's really easy to use. She says, 'There's section three which is the tax credits and relief section, and that has everything in there. There's working from home relief, there's flat rate expenses, the rent tax credit, it's all in the same place. You literally put in the amount and get your money back in a few working days.'
