Qatar, Canada host meetings of G7 Middle East and North Africa Directors, Arab-International Quintet Committee

DOHA; The State of Qatar, in partnership with Canada, hosted the meetings of the G7 Middle East and North Africa Directors and the Arab-International Quintet Committee, which convened in Doha on Wednesday as part of the preparatory track for the upcoming G7 Summit slated for mid-June in Canada. Advisor to the Prime Minister and the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, headed the Qatari side at the meetings, while the Canadian side was headed by HE Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Europe, the Arctic, and the Middle East at Global Affairs Canada, Alexandre Leveque. Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr Saud bin Mohammed Al Sati; Director of the American Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Dr Alsaghira Wabran Alahbabi; Director of the Private Office and Director of the Negotiations Coordination Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Adi Khair; Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister in the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Tarek Tayel; Ambassador of the United States of America to the State of Qatar, HE Timmy T Davis; Joint Head of the Near East Department at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, Dr Christian Dennys-McClure; Director of the Middle East Department at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, Romaric Roignot, Deputy Director General for Political and Security Affairs and Principal Director for the Mediterranean and the Middle East at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Maurizio Greganti; Special Envoy to Syria and Director for Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq at the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, Stefan Schneck; Deputy Director-General of the Middle East and Africa Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Hirofumi Miyake, and Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the European External Action Service of the European Union, Helene Le Gal, participated in the meeting. Deliberations throughout the meetings tackled the key issues in the Middle East region.

BRUSSELS: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari participated in Brussels in a panel discussion titled 'Qatar's Role in the International Mediation', organised by the Embassy of Qatar in the Kingdom of Belgium and the Royal Institute for International Relations (Egmont). During his remarks, Dr Al Ansari highlighted Qatar's pivotal role in mediation, built on more than 25 years of experience in facilitating dialogue and achieving peace in conflict zones. He explained that effective mediation requires a flexible approach that helps address challenges and paves the way for conflict resolution. Qatar's vision for mediation is centered on integrating political efforts with humanitarian work, based on the firm belief that alleviating civilian suffering is a fundamental gateway to lasting peace. Dr Al Ansari emphasized concrete examples that reflect this approach, citing Qatar's mediation efforts in Afghanistan, successful humanitarian initiatives to reunite groups of children with their families, and ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian consequences of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. DrAl Ansari acknowledged the challenges facing mediation, including the intertwined regional and international dimensions of conflicts, and the rise of media and political campaigns questioning the effectiveness and neutrality of mediation. He affirmed that the State of Qatar adheres to a mediation strategy based on tactical neutrality and strategic engagement, supported by strong international partnerships and a constant commitment to peace processes. Qatar also shares its expertise to develop fair and inclusive mediation models. The session was attended by Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg HE Khalid bin Fahad Al Hajri, Belgian officials, heads of accredited diplomatic missions, and representatives of international organisations and the European Union in Brussels.

QNA Brussels Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) HE Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari on Wednesday met in Brussels with Director-General of Bilateral Relations Brigitte Stevens, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Region Directorate Francois Cornet d'Elzius, and Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region Marc Pecsteen, at the Belgian foreign affairs ministry; and Deputy Chief of Cabinet and Diplomatic Advisor to the King of Belgium Eugene Crijns. During the meeting, held at the Belgian foreign affairs ministry, the two sides discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and explored ways to support and enhance it, particularly in the political, economic, and energy sectors. Both sides expressed their eagerness to elevate bilateral relations to new heights that meet the aspirations of both nations and serve their common interests. The meeting also covered several regional and international issues of mutual concern, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip, emphasising the importance of continuing joint efforts to end the ongoing war and humanitarian suffering, and ensuring the unobstructed flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip in accordance with humanitarian principles and international law. Regarding Syria, the two sides underscored the importance of assisting the Syrian people amidst the escalating economic challenges, especially following the European Union's decision to lift sanctions on certain sectors, and the need to ensure that financial and humanitarian aid reaches those in need. On the Iranian issue, both sides reaffirmed their support for all international efforts aimed at de-escalation, highlighting the importance of ongoing mediation efforts to bring closer the positions of Iran and the United States. Concerning the Great Lakes Region, the Belgian officials praised Qatar's pivotal role in mediating between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, expressing Belgium's readiness to support these efforts and contribute to enhancing the prospects for peace and stability in the region. The Belgian side also commended Qatar's constructive role in the joint mediation efforts aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and its success in reuniting several children with their families, as part of its ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian consequences of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Qatar to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg HE Khalid bin Fahad Al Hajri.

QNA Brussels Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) HE Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari met with Managing Director for the MENA region at the European External Action Service Helene Le Gal in Brussels on Tuesday. The meeting discussed cooperation between Qatar and the European Union and addressed the latest developments in Gaza and occupied Palestinian territories, as well as in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. The discussions also touched on talks between the United States and Iran. During the meeting, Le Gal expressed appreciation for Qatar's efforts as part of the joint mediation aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Al Ansarialso met with Chief Foreign Policy Advisor of the European Council President Anna-Maria Boura. During the meeting, the two sides discussed regional developments, particularly in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, Syria, the latest updates on the Russia-Ukraine crisis, and ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran. Both sides emphasised the importance of coordinating positions on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Qatar to the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) HE Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki.
