Sharjah installs over 17,774 electricity and water conservation devices in 1,610 houses
Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has completed the installation of 6,228 water conservation devices and 11,546 electricity conservation devices in 1,610 houses across Sharjah since the launch of the new phase of the Home Conservation Initiative in mid-April 2025. It is worth noting that more than 7,000 recipients of the inflation allowance in the Emirate of Sharjah have benefited from the initiative. Majid Harimel Al Shamsi, SEWA's Executive Director of Corporate Support, explained that the Home Conservation Initiative contributes to rationalising consumption, reducing utility bills for beneficiaries, and achieving sustainability. He added that it has already reduced water consumption by 63% and lighting consumption by 55% in previous phases implemented by the authority. Al Shamsi emphasised SEWA's ongoing commitment to expanding the initiative's beneficiary base, which was launched under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Al Shamsi noted that the new phase of the initiative has begun, with conservation devices and tools installed in beneficiaries' houses and work teams have started operations in several areas. Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of the Corporate Communications at SEWA, stated that the initiative is not limited to installing conservation devices but also aims to educate families and domestic workers on proper electricity and water conservation practices through various initiatives. He affirmed SEWA's commitment to collaborating with all relevant entities to expand the initiative's reach and periodically evaluate its impact to ensure it achieves its intended goals.

Majid Harimel Al Shamsi, SEWA's Executive Director of Corporate Support, emphasised that the agency's goal is to encourage the responsible use of resources to ensure they are available for future generations, helping create a greener future. This initiative is part of a wider effort to enhance the living standards of families, reduce their utility bills, and support sustainable development. Al Shamsi also mentioned that SEWA is eager to reach more families through the Home Rationalization Initiative. The programme aims to upgrade homes with modern technologies that conserve electricity and water, resulting in lower utility bills and a positive impact on resource usage. Rashid Al Marzouqi, the Director of the Media and Communications Department at SEWA, shared that the authority is committed to providing the latest technologies to help families use less energy and water. They will also educate these families on how to effectively use and care for energy-saving devices. The progress of the initiative will be regularly assessed to ensure it meets its goals. Al Marzouqi explained that previous phases of this initiative have already benefited more than 6,353 homes. He discussed plans for this new phase, which aims to support 7,677 families eligible for financial assistance due to inflation.
