Alleged driver charged over fatal hit-and-run crash at Hillcrest
A young man has been arrested over a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs last week. The woman was allegedly struck by a car on North East Road at Hillcrest at 11pm on May 6. A passing police patrol was on the scene within seconds and performed CPR but the Greenacres woman died at the scene. Police said witnesses described seeing a silver sedan that did not stop at the crash site. Officers later identified the car as a 2007 Subaru Liberty sedan and had urged the driver to come forward. On Wednesday, Major Crash officers arrested a 19-year-old man at a Banksia Park address and seized a car for forensic examination. He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident after causing death. The man was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on July 30. Police continue to appeal for dashcam footage, including of the woman's presence on the roadway before the collision. They also wish to speak to any crash repairers who may have fixed or quoted for damage to the front of a silver Subaru Liberty sedan in the past week. The woman's death was the 29th on the state's roads since the start of this year.
