Miami has changed – but glitz will always be in its DNA
Balmy climes, beach days, and the promise of a party, no matter the time, have always been Miami's calling card. However, the glitz didn't always extend to hospitality, which seemed to be more about style than substance. Since 2020, South Florida's sophistication level has spiked, thanks to a migration of chefs, big hospitality players (Major Food Group; Carbone) and finance and tech hotshots (Peter Thiel of PayPal, Ken Griffin of Citadel), not to mention the thousands of people who relocated to the Sunshine State when the Republican Governor Ron DeSantis ignored pandemic lockdown orders. Big-name restaurants opened and inspired a clutch of high-profile hotels to follow suit. Andaz, Thompson and Proper debuted this year, while Aman, Rosewood, Auberge and Casa Cipriani are expected to open their doors by 2026. Bvlgari and Maybourne properties are also in the works. Sport, too, contributed to this shiny, new Miami. David Beckham, in partnership with Major League Soccer, brought football to South Florida in the form of Inter Miami CF, starring Argentine ace Lionel Messi.

Sting wows the crowd at Miami Beach equestrian bash — including Jeff Bezos and his dad
Jeff Bezos traded rockets for horses Thursday night. A few days after launching six women into space (including his fiancée Lauren Sanchez), the Amazon founder was back home in party mode. Bezos reportedly had a different kind of blast at the kickoff of the Global Champions Arabians Tour (GCAT, for those in the know) — billed as the 'world's most prestigious Arabian horse championship series.' The scene: The sands of Miami Beach, which were transformed into a luxurious playground/open air concert hall for the rich and famous. The tony crowd included power players, businesspeople and a bunch of 'Real Housewives of Miami' stars. The (V)VIPs, who nibbled on 'elevated bites' from Major Food Group, were first treated to a performance by DJ Khaled. The local rapper ended up playing hype man for one of the most famous musicians in the world — that would be Sting. The 17-time Grammy winner wowed guests belting out such iconic hits as 'Every Little Thing She Does is Magic,' 'Roxanne,' 'Message in a Bottle' and 'Every Breath You Take.' The former Police frontman, who looks incredible for 73, didn't leave them speechless, though. Midway through his 45-minute set, we were told Sting invited people in the audience to join him in song. As Sting jammed, Bezos and his father Miguel Bezos (who invested $245,573 to help start up Amazon back in 1995), got as close to the stage as possible, rocking out to the retro classics. 'Jeff and his dad were adorable,' an onlooker told 'Truly enjoying the show.' Qatar Airways' exclusive horse show, which runs through Saturday on 35th and Collins Avenue, is, unfortunately, sold out. But wannabe spectators can watch elite Arabian horses and their expert handlers in action via livestream at

Beyond Seats at Carbone: Reservation Platform Dorsia Raises $50 Million to Expand
Restaurant reservations are as hot a commodity as you can find these days. Take New York City, where every night, diners battle a thousand-plus waitlist to score seats at Chez Fifi bistro on the Upper East Side and Major Food Group's Carbone and Torrisi downtown. Now Dorsia, the members-only platform that offers access to destination dining rooms in 21 markets worldwide, is expanding in the category with $50.4 million in seed and Series A funding, founder Marc Lotenberg tells Bloomberg. The round, which values Dorsia at $146 million, was led by Index Ventures SA, with participation from Invus Group LLC and people such as Naomi Gleit, head of product at Meta Platforms Inc., and Jon Newman, co-founder of Sweetgreen Inc.
