UD men's basketball point guard Malachi Smith has entered the transfer portal, the first player to do so this spring, after four seasons with the program. The 6-foot redshirt junior still has one season of eligibility remaining after missing the entire 2023-24 season due to a knee injury he suffered in the season opener. Smith averaged 9.3 points and 4.3 assists over 86 career games with the Flyers, highlighted by a career-best 10.4 points per game this season. The Bronx, N.Y. native started in 31 of 33 games during the 2024-25 campaign. Smith is the 19th player during Anthony Grant's tenure to enter the transfer portal. The portal hit comes just days after the Flyers suffered an 87-72 loss to Chattanooga in the second round of the NIT Tournament. UD finished the year 23-11 overall and 12-6 in the Atlantic 10 following an early exit in the quarterfinal round of the A-10 Tournament.
