Sailing industry can enhance Langkawi's potential as leading tourism destination
LANGKAWI: The sailing industry can become a catalyst in further enhancing Langkawi's potential to be a world-renowned tourism destination as well as a sailing hub in the region. Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) chief executive officer Datuk Haslilna Abdul Hamid said the economic spillover from the industry, which includes shipping activities, maintenance, repair and overhaul as well as boat manufacturing, is capable of generating job opportunities and driving local and national economic development. 'Langkawi is an island, so as an island, it definitely has a marina. So, with this facility, the sailing industry will have a positive impact on the local economy. 'If the sailing sector can flourish, a lot of economic spillovers can be enjoyed by the local community,' she told reporters here today. Earlier, she delivered the keynote address at the Malaysia Yachting Conference held in conjunction with the 2025 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA'25) here today. Haslina said Langkawi currently has three marinas, namely Langkawi Yacht Club, Telaga Harbour Marina and Rebak Marina Langkawi, which are quite limited and can only accommodate yachts of a certain size. 'We receive many requests from super yachts that want to enter the facility, but we can't because only yachts measuring 80 metres in length are allowed to dock. 'So, there is a need to expand the marina if we want to further stimulate the economy from the yacht industry... we need to see what needs to be done at the existing marinas, if we want to add a new marina it may be a little complicated,' she said. Meanwhile, she hopes that the Malaysia International Boat Show 2025 (MYBOS'25) and the Malaysia Sailing Conference could become annual events that could further enhance Langkawi's identity as a regional sailing hub.

Expectations surpassed as 33 exhibitors set for inaugural Mybos '25 in Langkawi
LANGKAWI: More than 33 exhibitors from within and outside the country will take part in the inaugural Malaysia International Boat Show 2025 (Mybos '25). The number, which includes luxury yacht, marine technology and nautical tourism investment companies, surpasses the organisers' initial expectations. The four-day event is scheduled to run from May 21 to 24 at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), and will be officially launched by the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah. The event's organising company chairman Datuk Mohammed Radzi Manan said the early response to the showcase had been overwhelming and far beyond expectations. "This is the first event of its kind in Malaysia and it reflects Langkawi's growing recognition as a major stopover for international sailors. The economic potential is enormous. "Mybos '25 is expected to attract thousands of local and international visitors, further cementing Langkawi's status as a premier yachting tourism hub in the region," he said in a statement today. Radzi said the exhibitors taking part in the show will include government agencies, private sector players and international institutions. The event will feature a combination of industry showcases, high-level forums and strategic networking sessions. "In addition to highlighting the beauty and potential of Malaysia's maritime sector, Mybos '25 will also host several key side events, including the Malaysia Yachting Conference on May 23 and the launch of the Malaysia Yacht Code 2025 Guideline by the Marine Department," he said. He added that among the highlights will be the showcase of Motoryacht MYA, a 110m-long luxury vessel registered under the Malaysian flag. "The yacht is currently anchored off the exhibition site to undergo audits and official checks related to its registration," he added. The debut event is jointly organised by Mybos Event Sdn Bhd and Sail Malaysia, with support from the Langkawi Development Authority, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and the Transport Ministry.

23 yacht operators to take part in international boat show in Langkawi
LANGKAWI: A total of 23 luxury yacht and boat operators will take part in the Malaysia International Boat Show 2025 (Mybos'25), which will be held here from May 21 to 25. The inaugural international event will take place at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club. Kedah's Tourism, Culture, and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin, said Mybos'25 would add vibrancy to the ongoing Visit Kedah Year 2025. "Mybos'25 will certainly complement the prestigious biennial Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima'25), as both events will run concurrently. "This makes May a peak period for tourist arrivals in Langkawi," he said at a press conference after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri ceremony at the Langkawi District and Land Office compound last night. For the record, Lima'25 will be held from May 20 to 24. Salleh said Mybos'25 would feature a wide range of international marine products, including the latest maritime technologies and luxury yachts. "This is not just a boat exhibition, it also serves as a business networking platform for industry players, investors and boat enthusiasts from around the world," he said.
