MIDA launches Data Centre Nexus to drive digital growth
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has launched Data Centre Nexus 2025, a strategic platform designed to boost collaboration, reinforce Malaysia's data centre supply chain, and tackle key industry challenges.
The initiative also spotlighted the importance of enabling government policies in driving digital transformation, with cloud adoption highlighted as a key engine for innovation and economic growth.
The event, officiated by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong and MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, gathered prominent industry stakeholders to shape a forward-looking roadmap for Malaysia's data centre ecosystem.
In his keynote speech, Liew called on stakeholders in the data centre industry to work together to deliver broad-based benefits for Malaysia.
The minister outlined three key goals for the data centre sector: to spearhead the energy transition by moving from coal to low-emission sources, to develop a local equipment supply chain under a "Build by Malaysia" initiative, and to generate data centre service jobs across the entire value chain for both Malaysia and the region.
He said these efforts aim to enhance sustainability, strengthen local industry participation, and boost employment opportunities in the digital economy.
Meanwhile, Sikh Shamsul stated that while drawing in investments remains a priority, MIDA is equally committed to building value within Malaysia's local ecosystem.
"Our immediate focus is resolute: to establish a resilient, Malaysian-grown local supply chain that directly fuels the expansion of our vital data centre infrastructure amidst global uncertainties.
"The presence of supply chain companies here today signals the strength and direction of Malaysia's growing digital ecosystem," he added.
