Selangor explores super app for smart parking system implementation

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is studying the adoption of a super app to streamline the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system. State Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah confirmed the initiative. He stated the State Digital Infrastructure Committee is evaluating market proposals for seamless smart parking rollout. Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB) will oversee operations, with plans to install more CCTV cameras in parking areas. Mohammad Fahmi highlighted Selangor's current parking fee collection rate stands at only 50 per cent. He stressed stricter enforcement is needed as non-compliance rises without monitoring. The new system aims for uniform and organised enforcement to improve revenue. Mohammad Fahmi spoke after the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award ceremony. He clarified the state has no plans to raise parking fees, focusing instead on enforcement efficiency. Annual parking revenue in Selangor is estimated at RM100 million but could double to RM200 million. The increased collection will fund infrastructure upgrades and better parking management. - Bernama

Selangor Studies Super App Usage In SIP Implementation

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is looking into the use of a suitable super app to coordinate the implementation of the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system, said state Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah. He said the State Digital Infrastructure Committee as the responsible party is awaiting suggestions from the market so that the implementation of smart parking throughout the state runs smoothly. "What is certain is that when this parking operation is taken over by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB), we expect more infrastructure such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be installed in parking lots in Selangor because that will tighten enforcement. "This is because our collection level for parking areas throughout Selangor is only 50 per cent and the rest cannot be collected because people usually won't pay if there is no enforcement, so we need a more neat, uniform and organised enforcement method," he said. He said this when met after the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award presentation ceremony here today. Mohammad Fahmi said that so far the state government has no plans to increase the parking fee rate, thus emphasising that the implementation of smart parking focuses on strengthening enforcement. He said the estimated annual collection of parking lots throughout Selangor reached about RM100 million a year and through the implementation of a more efficient collection system, the amount could reach up to RM200 million. "With the increase, it will be able to be reused to improve infrastructure and also manage existing parking spaces," he said. -- BERNAMA
