Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2025 invites motoring groups nationwide
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 programme is now open to motoring enthusiast groups from all states for the first time. This initiative aims to strengthen patriotism among Malaysians through nationwide participation. Previously, only one motor group was allowed to join the convoy across Peninsular Malaysia. Naim Fahmi Ahmad Tajuddin, senior director of the Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN), explained the change in policy. 'Every state has its own motoring groups, so this year, each state can decide which group represents them,' he said on Bernama TV's Apa Khabar Malaysia. Free Jalur Gemilang flags will be distributed during the journey. Contributions to local communities at checkpoints are also part of the programme. JAPEN will oversee coordination in each state to ensure smooth execution. Government agencies will hold exhibitions and services along the route. 'We hope for strong public participation to elevate patriotism nationwide,' Naim Fahmi added. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the campaign on July 27 in Muar, Johor. The convoy will cover 88 checkpoints across Malaysia, including Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan. It concludes on August 31 at Dataran Putrajaya, the National Day celebration venue. – Bernama

Bernama Deputy Editor Among 27 Rukun Negara Reciters At Today's Launch Of National Month By PM Anwar
MUAR, July 27 (Bernama) – Deputy Editor (Content) Badrul Zaman Mohamad Yusoh was among 27 individuals who participated in the recitation of the Rukun Negara pledge at the launch of the 2025 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Dataran Tanjung Emas here, today. He was selected by the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) as one of the 'Anak Merdeka' (Independence Child) who was born on August 31 as a symbolic gesture to ignite the spirit of patriotism and love for the country among the people. The pledge recitation, led by an officer from the Ministry of Communications, Hafizul Zikri Mawardi, featured 10 'Anak Merdeka' from various agencies and 17 members of the Muar District Scout Association, symbolising the unity of Malaysians from diverse backgrounds under the shared banner of independence. Badrul, 55, who has been with Bernama for 24 years, described the experience as an honour that will be remembered for a lifetime. 'I feel incredibly proud and humbled to be entrusted with representing the spirit of the Malaysian people. Reciting the pledge is not merely about saying the words, but a sincere promise to the country. 'As an individual born on August 31, I am proud to share my birth date with the country's historic day. It is like a symbol that I was born with the spirit of freedom and struggle. That date makes my responsibility towards the country deeper and more personal,' he said when met here. Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM) student Liu Jia Yuan, 18, said she was contacted twice by the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) to participate in the recitation of the pledge and initially ignored it because she considered it a 'scam'. 'For me, apart from being proud to be able to recite the pledge in front of the Prime Minister… activities like this can strengthen unity among the pledge reciters and instil a spirit of unity. It is learnt that the pledge reciters for today came from all over the country,' he said. Meanwhile, a member of the staff at the Policy and International Division of the Ministry of Communications, Noria Munirah Yakub, 38, said it felt like a dream when she was entrusted with the honour earlier this month.

Kembara Riuh Pesta Itu-Ini : Digital Caricaturist Proves Commercial Value
KOTA BHARU, June 20 (Bernama) -- Once underestimated for pursuing a degree in fine arts, Mohd Azizi Husein, 47, has proven that an arts qualification is not a barrier to success—in fact, it opens the door to various professional career opportunities, especially in today's digital era. The Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat native, known as GG, currently serves as a graphic designer at the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) Headquarters and has been active as a part-time digital caricaturist since 2010. 'I used to be mocked, with people saying I'd end up sketching by the roadside. But the truth is, arts graduates can serve in government sectors such as hospitals, courts, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), public universities, and now even in tech and artificial intelligence (AI),' he told Bernama at the Kembara RIUH Pesta Itu-Ini programme at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here today. A graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2000, Mohd Azizi said he shifted from manual to digital drawing in 2018 following JaPen's 'JaPen Kini Digital' initiative, which included the use of QR codes in official publications. He said digital caricatures were gaining popularity due to their simplicity, efficiency, minimal equipment requirements, and the ease with which mistakes could be corrected—while also offering unique commercial value. To attract the public, JaPen offers complimentary caricature drawings during its outreach programmes. 'Black-and-white sketches usually take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, while coloured versions can take up to two hours,' he said. During a recent event in Lumut, Perak, he managed to complete 170 caricatures over three days. On average, he is able to draw more than 50 faces a day, depending on crowd response. Commercially, digital caricature prices start from as low as RM10 for black-and-white versions and RM30 for coloured versions per face.
