Woman goes into labour pain during train journey, deliver twins in city hosp
Kanpur: A woman in her eighth month of pregnancy experienced sudden labour while travelling from Bihar to Delhi on the Malda Express.
The medical team at LLR maternity hospital conducted an emergency operation, successfully saving the mother and her twin babies.
Jinain Kumar was accompanying his wife Madhumita, aged 27, and their three-year-old daughter, who needed treatment for an eye-tumour in Delhi.
When the train arrived at Kanpur Central station around 11 am on Friday, Madhumita experienced severe labour pains with a ruptured amniotic sac. Her husband rushed her to LLR maternity hospital.
The medical team's quick response proved crucial in this emergency. Upon arrival the staff immediately notified senior gynaecologist about the critical situation.
The patient required immediate blood transfusion due to her low haemoglobin levels.
After the successful delivery, both newborns were transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit for observation. The mother received post-operative care in the recovery ward, where her condition stabilised gradually. Social workers helped the family contact their relatives in Bihar. The hospital staff also assisted in postponing their daughter's appointment in Delhi.
Principal GSVM of Medical College Dr Sanjay Kala stated, "The twins remained under observation for 72 hours, receiving routine check-ups and necessary vaccinations. Madhumita recovered well, with her vital parameters returning to normal." The family expressed their gratitude towards the medical team for their timely intervention and comprehensive care.
