Machete-wielding man attacks security guard at Frisco mosque, police say
A security guard was attacked by a man with a machete at a Frisco mosque during prayer on Sunday, June 8, police said. Officers responded at 11 a.m. to the Islamic Center of Frisco at 11137 Frisco St., after reports of a person being stabbed at the location, Frisco police said in a news release. Police said a 911 caller provided a description of the suspect, who was still at- large. Based on that description, the suspect, 26-year-old Malik Davis was taken into custody, police said. The initial investigation by officers found that the victim, who is a uniformed security guard at the mosque, was praying inside when Davis approached him from behind and assaulted the security guard multiple times with a machete, police said. The victim suffered injuries to his head and one of his hands, police said. Police said Davis took possession of the victim's gun but later ditched it before being confronted by officers. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and subsequently released, police said. Davis was transported to the Collin County Jail and faces charges of aggravated assault against a security officer and theft of a firearm with a bond set at $60,000. The victim's gun was recovered at the scene, police said. 🚨 More top stories from our newsroom: → Widow of Arlington firefighter who died in Cancun seeks $35M at trial → Christmas-themed restaurant Campo Verde reopens → Teen arrested in stabbing death of his father [Get our breaking news alerts.] The person arrested is a Muslim who had been regularly attending the mosque for the past several months, the Islamic Center of Frisco said in a statement on social media. Cowboys Fans Saddened by Projection to Cut Loose Deuce
FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn has been living a football fairy tale ... and it might be ending soon. Having been a fan favorite since being drafted in 2023 with his father, Chris, a scout for the Cowboys, delivering that emotionally charged phone call to let his son know he had been drafted, it has been two years of tough sledding for Deuce. Advertisement And after the NFL Draft, it's gotten that much tougher with Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah both being selected. Plus, new coach Brian Schottenheimer can squint and envision them as potential starters. But now, as attention turns to the offseason programs, Dallas has trimmed its roster to 90, and running back Malik Davis was one of the four players the franchise waived. That's one less player Deuce has to usurp. Now, with OTAs about to get underway here inside The Star, Vaughn still has a huge hill to climb with Miles Sanders, Javonte Williams, Blue, Mafah, and even fullback Hunter Luepke ahead of him. Advertisement But the path forward is becoming clear for Deuce. ... and it's likely to end in a way fans don't want it to. When we break down the Cowboys' 53-man roster predictions and we don't include Deuce? Fans don't love it. The problem with the diminutive runner? He's not bigger than Dallas' big backs, or faster than the fast ones, or more shifty than the shifty ones. In short ... There's nothing that he does that is anywhere close to being better than anything that these other guys do. Deuce hasn't managed to set himself apart from the other backs on the roster since arriving at The Star, let alone the new ones coming in, and who knows, maybe with Conor Riley, his former coach at Kansas State, might help tilt the scales in Deuce's favor. Advertisement But even as a second kick returner alongside KaVontae Turpin, there are now better options. And besides, as you are trimming this roster in the coming months, do you hang onto a player because he's a backup kick returner?
