From heritage to defence, Ahilyabai an inspiration: Yogi
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that no barrier can come in the way of those inspired by national heroes and paid tribute to Ahilyabai Holkar, stressing that she was known for good governance, security and self-defence. 'Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar stressed on self- defence and today our armed forces take inspiration while conducting surgical strikes and airstrikes. Indian defence forces demolished air bases of Pakistan and forced them to come to their knees,' Adityanath said. He was addressing an event in Agra to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar. He applauded Ahilyabai Holkar's contributions to renovating temples damaged and demolished by Mughal invaders. 'Inspired by Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, our government at the Centre and in the state, has begun various schemes for women empowerment and welfare. The previous regime in the state changed the name of a degree college set up in the name of Ahilyabai Holkar but we have named a medical college after her,' he said. He accused the previous regime in the state of remaining busy in nurturing the mafia, which posed a threat to law and order. 'Ahilyabai Holkar ruled the Malwa empire, which extended to parts of present-day Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. She undertook the mammoth task of renovating and restoring temples 250 years ago after they were demolished by Mughal invaders. This event is a tribute to this great contribution of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar,' he said. The chief minister welcomed Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, his wife Dr Sudesh Dhankhar and Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya at the event. 'One who gets inspired by national heroes is not going to face any barrier in his aim. Ahilyabai Holkar did so much for craftsmen, women, workers, farmers, youth and for the security, cultural heritage of the nation, which makes her our inspiration. Instead of investing funds from the state exchequer, she used her own money for revival of temples at Jagannath Puri, Gaya, Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakaal, Kedarnath Dham, Omkareshwar, Somnath and Rameshwaram. She lived for 70 years but left an immortal impression,' the chief minister said. 'We are running different schemes for the welfare of women after being inspired by Ahilyabai Holkar,' he said. 'Ahilyabai Holkar was committed to handicrafts. She had popularised the 'mahishmati saree,' much in the pattern of the Banarasi saree of Varanasi. She worked on an action plan for the betterment of women during her rule,' Adityanath added. The chief minister applauded efforts made by Union minister of state and Agra MP SP Singh Baghel for the success of the event, which had a healthy turnout despite the hot weather.

Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 1 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday attended an event on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar in Agra and highlighted her contribution to women's empowerment, farmers and youth. 'Maharani was from the Malwa empire, which covered areas in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh... This event is a celebration of the work she did 250 years ago. She worked for the restoration of temples and India's identity and faith, that's why we are celebrating the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata,' CM Adityanath said while addressing the gathering in Agra. Praising her contributions, he said, 'Whatever Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar did for women empowerment, for artisans, farmers, youth, security and for saving India's heritage is unforgettable... Inspired by this, today, the double-engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is working to take all the programs forward in a systematic manner,' he added. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar was also present at the event. 'Today is a day filled with immense pride and emotion for me. I consider myself blessed to be a witness to this historic occasion. On this occasion, we will have to take inspiration and we will have to take a pledge that we will follow her ideals.' Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects in the city. Speaking at the event, he began by paying tribute to 'Maa Bharati' and acknowledging the strength of India's women. He expressed gratitude for the large gathering of sisters and daughters who had come to bless the event, stating that he felt honoured by their presence. Quoting Devi Ahilyabai, he reiterated that true governance means serving the people and improving their lives. He remarked that today's program embodies her vision and carries forward her ideals. The Prime Minister noted the launch of the Indore Metro, along with the addition of air connectivity for Datia and Satna. Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar is remembered for her people-centric policies, deep commitment to economic and socio-cultural issues, especially those that affected the life of women. She encouraged the education of women and their participation in the social and religious life of the local community. She supported and encouraged women weavers to make Maheshwari sarees. Her contributions were wide-ranging, from infrastructure development (water bodies, roads, dharamshalas) to reconstruction and revival of temples across the length and breadth of the land. The edifices created by her have not only left an indelible mark on India's cultural and spiritual landscape but also stood the test of time. (ANI)

India does not send dossiers any more, we only give a befitting reply, says Nadda
Bharatiya Janata Party national president J.P. Nadda on Saturday (May 31, 2025) said a safe and strong India is marching ahead under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership after the display of the nation's power during Operation Sindoor. 'The operation has only been halted, while the fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism will continue,' Mr. Nadda said. Mr. Nadda was on a day's visit to Jaipur to participate in the celebrations marking the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the former queen of the Malwa kingdom, attend the BJP's 'Tiranga Yatra', and interact with the party workers. He spoke at two functions at the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC) and the Entertainment Paradise Hall, besides addressing the BJP workers at the Sanganer airport. Mr. Nadda said India had made it clear through its surgical strikes [in Pakistan], air strikes and Operation Sindoor that a 'befitting reply' would be given to the attackers by entering their own territory. 'India does not send dossiers [to Pakistan] any more, like the one after the 26/11 attack. Modi ji doesn't complain, he executes what he says,' he said. The new normal The BJP president said the Operation Sindoor, which had demonstrated India's military capability, had handed down a punishment to Pakistan 'beyond its imagination', as promised by Mr. Modi. 'Nine terror hotspots, including the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed, were destroyed in 22 minutes. Eleven air bases [in Pakistan] were also destroyed. This is the new normal,' he said. While affirming that Operation Sindoor would continue as long as Pakistan nurtures terrorism, Mr. Nadda called upon the BJP workers to apprise the people of the party's national security policy, and come forward to defend the nation. Disburses aid At the women's empowerment programme at RIC, Mr. Nadda flagged off 150 Kalika patrolling units of the Rajasthan Police and transferred financial assistance to the beneficiaries of Lakhpati Didi Yojana, Lado Protsahan Yojana, SC/ST pre-matric scholarship scheme, and the distance education scheme. He also launched the Swasth Nari Chetana Abhiyan and the Garbh Pathshala Yojana on the occasion. Mr. Nadda, who holds the Health & Family Welfare portfolio as a Minister in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre, said the culture of politics had changed in the country after 2014. 'Instead of blame game, every section of society is being empowered now,' he said. 'Modiji has made accountability and responsibility the new definitions of politics. We are willing to give report cards for our work… The double-engine government in Rajasthan is engaged in public service with its new schemes for all sections of society,' Mr. Nadda said. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Bhagirath Choudhary, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, and BJP State president Madan Rathore were among those who attended functions along with Mr. Nadda. Mr. Nadda also visited the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Haribhau Bagade.

PM Modi reiterated that terrorists had dared to challenge the strength of Indian women, a move that led to their downfall, along with those who supported them. He emphasised that 'Sindoor' has long stood as an emblem of feminine power in Indian tradition, signifying strength, devotion, and sacred duty. Citing an example from Hindu mythology, PM Modi said, even in the lore of Lord Hanuman, his devotion to Lord Rama is intertwined with the symbolism of 'Sindoor', marking a bond of faith and unwavering commitment. Referring to the recent acts of terror in Pahalgam, PM Modi said that they were not just an attack on innocent lives but an assault on India's cultural fabric and unity. He pointed out that the aggressors had sought to fracture the spirit of the people and dared to challenge the indomitable force of women's strength, a mistake that proved to be their downfall. Highlighting the success of 'Operation Sindoor', PM Modi described it as the most formidable and triumphant mission in India's history against terrorism. He praised the armed forces for advancing deep into enemy territory, dismantling their hideouts, and burying them beneath the weight of justice. This operation, he said, delivered a powerful message to the world that 'India will no longer tolerate proxy wars waged through terrorism.' Those who seek to threaten India's sovereignty will find no refuge, as the forces of justice will strike at the very heart of hostility, eliminating not only the perpetrators but also those who enable and support them. 'The cost of aiding such atrocities,' he declared, 'would be severe, and the response to every act of aggression would be absolute.' Extolling virtues of Ahilyabai Holkar, PM Modi emphasised that her name evokes deep reverence. PM Modi recalled her pioneering stance on social reform, highlighting that in an era when discussions about women's rights were rare, Ahilyabai boldly advocated for women's property rights and the right of widows to remarry. She championed these causes with conviction, defying tradition and challenging societal norms that sought to limit women's autonomy. Furthermore, she established a contingent of women warriors in the Malwa army, recognising female strength and capability at a time when such ideas were revolutionary. PM Modi remarked that the world, particularly the West, often criticises India's treatment of women while overlooking its long history of female leadership and valour. He pointed out that Ahilyabai's vision extended beyond her own kingdom. She took strategic measures to form women's security squads in villages, reinforcing their role as protectors of their communities. Her legacy, he said, is not just one of governance but of nation-building, embodying the power of women in shaping India's future. Offering his respects, he expressed hope that her blessings continue to guide the nation forward.

Rechristened Jagdishpur, 300-yr-old fort to woo tourists in new avatar
Bhopal: The restoration of the historic fort, which served as Bhopal State's capital in the early 1700s, has come roughly two years after reversion of its name from Islam Nagar to Jagdishpur. Renaming places can stir debates, with critics arguing over historical continuity and cultural identity. But regardless of where one stands on the change from Islam Nagar back to Jagdishpur, one undeniable outcome is unfolding—the long-overdue restoration of a fort that once was Bhopal State's capital. The extensive restoration work focuses on two significant structures, Chaman Mahal and Rani Mahal, which had suffered prolonged deterioration. MP Directorate of Archaeology, Archives and Museums has proposed adaptive reuse of the heritage site, around 15 km from Bhopal. Constructed in 1715 by Sardar Dost Mohammad Khan, this royal fortress served multiple purposes beyond defence. It witnessed the birth of royal family members and houses the tombs of two Nawabs. The planned development zone plans encompass artisanal markets, cultural shows, and organised events to reinvigorate these historical spaces. Beyond the discussions surrounding its renaming, the fort's restoration represents a significant milestone. This initiative not only preserves Bhopal's early administrative centre but also rejuvenates its historical magnificence.
