PETALING JAYA, May 20 (Bernama) -- Mamee-Double Decker Distribution (M) Sdn Bhd has introduced a refreshed lineup of its DAEBAK Korean sauces, featuring bold new flavours and revamped packaging designed to appeal to Malaysian tastes. Unveiled at the DAEBAK Engagement Workshop held at TCH Foodworks, the updated trio, Sweet Chilli, Soy Garlic, and Tteokbokki, reflects Mamee's commitment to localising Korean cuisine while upholding Halal standards and strict food safety protocols. Mamee-Double Decker's director of Food Service, Jennifer Chee, said the relaunch aims to spark consumer excitement and highlight the versatility of DAEBAK Korean sauces in everyday Malaysian meals. 'We're also deepening our engagement with customers and chefs to better meet the rising Halal demand among Muslim consumers,' she said at the event. As part of the Nikmati Rasa Authentik Korea campaign, Mamee chefs Faizul Hazly and Korean chef Byungyoon Kim conducted live cooking demonstrations, showcasing dishes such as Budae Jjigae, Kogi Chicken, and the fiery Ghost Pepper Ramyun, all designed to highlight the versatility of Korean flavours in local cuisine. Chee noted that while Korean cuisine remains a niche segment, its popularity is rising rapidly, fuelled by the cultural wave of K-dramas and K-pop. 'Our sauces go beyond traditional Korean dishes. They can be easily fused into Malaysian favourites, from hotel buffets to festive banquets,' she said. Developed in collaboration with Korea's Shinsegae Food, the sauces are crafted for versatility across multiple channels, including ready-to-eat meals, central kitchens and HORECA establishments. In line with the relaunch, Mamee is ramping up brand presence and outreach through hotel tours, food truck activations, café collaborations and participation in key trade events such as Food Hotel Malaysia 2025.

(Video) Malaysian-UK Actor Henry Golding Compares Local Snacks To UK Snacks
Malaysia and its food culture are two peas in a pod, as most people could vouch for us when we mention the abundance of variations from all cultures combined in one nation. One may argue that Malaysian snacks are held in the highest regard for their nostalgic taste and flavour that hasn't changed since the early 90s, even foreigners are buying them in bulk! Yesterday (Tuesday, 6th May 2025), Malaysian-UK actor Henry Golding was invited to be featured in an episode of 'Snack Wars' from the popular entertainment YouTube channel, LADBible Entertainment, where he compares Malaysian snacks to British snacks. The choices of Malaysian snacks ranged from Mamee Monster to Mi-Mi Crab Puffs. The episode featured the actor comparing five local snacks with five British ones he grew up with. Notably, in his comparison of Mamee Monster and Walkers Pickled Onion Monster Munch, he showed that his Malaysian roots remain strong, breaking open the pack and eating it in true Malaysian style: crunch, shake and munch! Naturally, Mamee came out on top, despite him admitting that both were his favourites. 'Mamee is hard to beat,' he said. The episode continued with a comparison between durian biscuits and classic jam tarts, during which he expressed his love for durian. When asked to describe the fruit, the 38-year-old actor replied, 'I mean, it's indescribable in flavour. Some people sort of describe it as kind of rotten socks mixed with custard. I describe it as the nectar of the Gods.' As expected from the Sarawakian-born performer, he chose durian biscuits as the winner. By a 4/5 result, Malaysian snacks won the wars, only losing one point to Jaffa Cakes to Glutinous Rice Balls. Another local snack that had won included the Teh Tarik. By the end of the episode, Henry exclaims, 'Malaysia Boleh!' in a true proud Malaysian moment. Watch the full episode here: Source: YouTube Alyssa Gabrielle contributed to this article

#SHOWBIZ: Henry Golding gives thumbs up to Malaysian snacks on LADBible channel
HOLLYWOOD: While busy promoting his latest movie Another Simple Favour, Hollywood-based Malaysian actor Henry Golding recently found time to review his favourite snacks from Malaysia and the United Kingdom on popular YouTube channel Snack Wars by LADBible. The Crazy Rich Asians star was the latest Hollywood actor to appear on the latest Snack Wars episode where he sampled and compared five Malaysian snacks and an equal number of British ones, and eventually made his home country "beat" the UK by a score of 4 to 1. Golding's first round saw him taste chicken-flavoured Mamee instant noodles, his childhood comfort food, and pickled onion Monster Munch, which he is also fond of. "I grew up with both of them, and competition is really tough here, but still my vote goes to Mamee," said Golding. In the second round, Golding sampled Malaysian durian biscuits and M&S jam tarts from the UK, and voted for the "king of the fruits" hands down. "I always say the durian is nectar of the gods, and I love durian biscuits. Nevertheless, I don't think I'll let my Hollywood friends taste these biscuits," he said. When he had to compare British Yazoo milk and Malaysian teh tarik, Golding once again said "yes" to the iconic Malaysian beverage. "Both are great, but teh tarik is my go to drink back home in KL." When it came to comparing Malaysian Mi-Mi crab crisps and British Scampi Fries, Golding also chose the Malaysian snack, as he grew up with it. The only time he let Britain "win" was when he sampled Malaysian rice balls and British Jaffa cakes. "Rice balls are a sweet and lovely dessert for me, but so are Jaffa cakes, and I'll be honest here, I prefer the latter," said Golding. "Anyway, Malaysia wins today. Malaysia Boleh!" The best known Hollywood stars who have appeared in Snack Wars episodes over the years include Timothee Chalamet of Dune fame, Austin Bulter of Elvis The Movie and Florence Pugh of Thunderbolts.
