Man-made River Authority repairs 28 wells after electric shock puts all 34 operating water wells out of service
The Man-made River Authority reported yesterday that it had repaired and returned to service 28 out of 34 water wells at the Tazerbu Well Field located deep in the southeastern Libyan desert, 840 km south of Benghazi.
The wells, the River Authority explained, were put out of service on 3 August because of a sudden electric surge at the site where the electrical voltage from the public network increased from the normal 66 kV to 75 kV. The surge had also caused damage to the components of the water treatment units.
However, with the efforts of the site Operation and Maintenance team and the Emergency Team at the Authority, 28 wells were restarted by yesterday.
The River Authority said work is underway to restore the rest of the wells and components of the water treatment units.
