Region A Sports and Recreation hones girls' talent on the pitch

Now in its sixth edition, the City of Joburg Region A Sports and Recreation Department proudly held its annual U13 Primary Schools Girls Football Tournament at Rabie Ridge Stadium on August 9. This tournament celebrates National Women's Day by showcasing the talents of about 24 schools from across Joburg, all dedicated to empowering young girls through sports, dignity, and health. Region A's sports and recreation assistant director, Mandla Mahlangu, emphasised the critical mission behind this event: to uplift women and enhance the status of girls. 'These tournaments are vital for our young girls; ideally, they should take place throughout the year. However, due to resource limitations, we celebrate on Women's Day. The girl child must be protected, acknowledged, and given these opportunities,' said Mahlangu.
