Plea to develop Podanur and Coimbatore North railway stations
Ganapathy P. Rajkumar, MP, has made an appeal to develop Podanur and Coimbatore railway stations as terminus in a bid to decongest the Coimbatore station, which is land-locked. He also made a plea to restore the pre-COVID trains.
He was speaking at a meeting organised by the Railways to seek the opinion of the MPs. He appealed to the officials to restore all the pre-COVID trains for the convenience of the passengers. Mr. Rajkumar's demands included redevelopment of Coimbatore Junction, Coimbatore North Junction and Podanur Junction under the Amrit Bharat scheme and provision of regular updates on the progress of the works to all the MPs.
He also made an appeal for termination and origination of trains at Coimbatore North and Podanur stations. He demanded stoppage of Coimbatore - Bangalore Vande Bharat Express at Coimbatore North and to have the Mangalore Intercity Express terminated at Podanur. IT professionals travelling to Bangalore have sought stoppage at Carmelaram.
He also exhorted the General Manager - Southern Railway to order for commencing the pit line works and to introduce a Coimbatore - Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express, extend train no. 56113/114 to Madurai, introduce a new Jan Shatabadi Express from Coimbatore to Tiruchendur and to restore the Coimbatore - Rameswaram Express which was running previously and stopped during the gauge conversion works.
