Mango Board will be game changer for Andhra: BJP chief PVN Madhav
VIJAYAWADA: State BJP president PVN Madhav on Wednesday suggested that establishing a dedicated Mango Board could be a game changer for Andhra Pradesh's economic growth, during a candid conversation with print media journalists where he shared his vision for the party's development agenda and plans. During the interaction, Madhav said, 'We will walk together, step by step,' adding that a visible transformation in Andhra Pradesh's development will be evident within the next four years. He affirmed his commitment to empowering grassroots-level BJP workers, and transforming them into people's representatives. Reflecting on the coalition government's performance, Madhav noted that it has completed its first year, and received positive feedback from the public. He pointed out that although AP is rich in resources and talent, particularly with many skilled engineers, a significant number of youth are migrating to other States due to a lack of employment opportunities. He expressed hope that with the coalition government's efforts and increasing investments, job opportunities in the State will rise. He highlighted the importance of spice cultivation, like pepper, in regions like Araku, and said focused development in such sectors could bring significant benefits. Speaking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance, Madhav said Modi's schemes are designed with the sole intent of helping the poor, without any political bias. 'Though the schemes are in the name of the Prime Minister, Modi himself never insists on having his name on them. This reflects his genuine intention to serve the poor,' he said. He noted the success of the BJP's Varadhi outreach programme in the State, and stated that the participation of BJP legislators in the Assembly would provide a platform to raise critical public issues. Special programmes are also being planned for the welfare and development of denotified tribes in the State, he said.

Govt bats for Mango Board in Chittoor
CHITTOOR: With mango farmers reeling under falling prices as well as truncated purchases by processing units, State Principal Secretary for Food Processing Chiranjeevi Chaudhary has urged mango processing units to procure mangoes from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to safeguard the interests of cultivators. He was addressing a review with representatives of mango pulp industries in the erstwhile Chittoor district on Friday. During the meeting, the Principal Secretary said that both the Central and State governments were taking special measures to support mango growers. He highlighted that the state government had submitted proposals to the Centre to establish a Mango Board in Chittoor and make a provision for it in the upcoming budget. Chiranjeevi said that the government was considering release of Rs.8 crore in dues related to pulp processing units. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had already written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting the removal of GST on processed mango products -- a move that is expected to benefit both farmers and processing units. Underlining the importance of collaborative efforts, the Principal Secretary called on mango processing units to actively participate in resolving the agrarian crisis and expand their marketing strategies. He encouraged them to promote mango-based products at major public functions and events to boost consumption. District Collector Sumit Kumar, who also attended the meeting, said that 1.15 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes has been procured till date this season, with an estimated 1.70 lakh metric tonnes yet to arrive. Any new proposals, including supplying mango juice in the midday meal scheme, would be carefully studied before implementation, he added. Industry representatives urged the officials to help reduce GST on mango pulp from the current 12 per cent to 5 per cent and to explore the inclusion of mango juice in schemes such as the midday meal program and offerings at temples. Joint Collector G Vidyadhari, AP Food Processing Society MD Sekhar Babu, DD Horticulture Madhusudhan Reddy, and representatives from prominent mango pulp companies were among those present at the meeting.

Chittoor: Chittoor MP Daggumalla Prasad Rao stated that efforts are underway to establish a dedicated Mango Board in the district to support mango farmers, particularly those cultivating the Totapuri variety. He was speaking at a meeting of public representatives, officials, mango farmers and pulp industries representatives in Chittoor on Thursday which focused on ensuring a remunerative price for the Totapuri mango, which is widely cultivated in the region. During the meeting, farmers and processing company owners engaged in an in-depth discussion about the challenges they face. District Collector Sumit Kumar underlined the importance of coordination between farmers and processing companies during the mango season, especially regarding the pricing of the Totapuri variety. He added that farmers will be given priority in determining fair prices and that efforts will be made to ensure harmonious functioning of both agricultural and processing sectors with mutual support. Puthalapattu MLA K Murali Mohan stressed the need for long-term solutions rather than seasonal discussions. He also urged processing companies to support farmers in collaboration with the government.
