Mango farmers plan ‘signature campaign' seeking ₹12 per kg MSP for Totapuri
The Chittoor district unit of Mango Farmers Welfare Association has decided to intensify agitation in support of the demand for a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹12 per kg for Totapuri mangoes.
The district committee meeting, led by its president T. Janardhan, at the UTF office here on Sunday (August 3, 2025), announced a massive signature campaign with 50,000 farmers, which would be submitted to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The panel members stressed the need for a continued struggle till the demand was approved. They deplored that despite the assurance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu about the MSP and the subsidy, local pulp industries and operators of the procurement ramps were issuing bills as low as ₹4 per kg.
Expressing concern over the 'exploitation' of the farmers by the pulp units, the association members urged District Collector Sumit Kumar to initiate steps for the implementation of government orders.
The Association will conduct the signature campaign from August 4 to 10 across the district, besides organising gram sabhas and passing resolutions in support of the demand. On August 11, mango farmers would participate in a black badge protest at the Gandhi Bomma Centre in Chittoor.
