MNAC deploys squad to penalise people discarding waste haphazardly

Jamshedpur: The enforcement squad (ES) of the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) has launched on-the-spot penalty drive to discipline residents discarding domestic waste on the streets. The five-member squad, headed by sanitation and food inspector (SFI) Sanjay Kumar, made random inspections of the colonies on Dimna Road, New Purulia Road, Sankosai, Paridih, and Olidih on Tuesday and Wednesday. Over the two days, the squad collected Rs 3,500 in penalties from 10 people for loosely discarding trash on the street. "It is not just about throwing leftover food on the street; even those dumping building materials on the road or illegally using single-use plastic items will be penalised by the enforcement team in accordance with the provisions of the Jharkhand Municipality Act 2011," said assistant municipal commissioner (AMC) Aqib Javed. The senior official said that cleaning workers are visiting door-to-door daily to collect domestic trash. People should segregate dry and wet waste in separate bins at the source and hand the bins to the cleaning workers. Further, dustbins have been installed at multiple spots to facilitate residents in disposing of waste. Amid the monsoon season, the MNAC is making extra effort to keep the command area litter-free. For this, the cleaning agencies have been asked to ensure that there's no break in the daily collection of waste.

Tippers in MNAC to have GPS tags

1 2 Jamshedpur: Tippers, which collect waste within the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) limits, will be fitted with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices for their real time monitoring. The move, MNAC officials said, aims to ensure timely and regular waste collection from households and markets and public places. Additionally, the tippers will be allotted ward-wise identification numbers, and each vehicle will make rounds to the respective wards. "Very often, tippers are off the road due to mechanical faults, breakdowns, and driver absences. The ward-wise allotted number will aid in keeping track of the vehicles that are off the road. It will also help in determining whether the garbage of the respective ward was lifted or not due to the vehicle's fault," Mango deputy municipal commissioner Kirshna Kumar said. Cube Adityapur Waste Management Private Limited, the private enterprise entrusted with the collection and disposal of waste, has been directed to deploy sanitation workers in full strength for the regular disposal of waste from all the wards. Home to over 3 lakh people across 33 wards, MNAC collects 52 metric tonnes of municipal waste daily. A total of 292 cleaning workers and 26 Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCV) are engaged in the collection and disposal of the waste.

MLA, locals stage protests as water crisis deepens in Mango

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy led a sit-in outside the office of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner on Thursday to demand a permanent solution to the ongoing water crisis being faced by the residents of 36 wards of Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) during the summer months. Besides residents of Mango, several politicians from the NDA fold also attended. Roy said he was compelled to stage protests as despite his best efforts over the last four months, the problem remained unaddressed. "I suspect a conspiracy behind the problem. Despite assurances from the top officials at the secretariat level, the officials at the lower rung are not working to translate assurance into action," Roy claimed. Roy said some forces were conspiring to fail the Rs 125 crore Mango Drinking Water Project. The MLA stated that 75% of the population in Mango is not getting water in their taps, while the municipal and the drinking water and sanitation department officials are least bothered to repair the burntmotors of the water treatment plant and overhead water tanks. "At Baliguma, households are not receiving even a drop of water due to the delay in laying the water supply pipeline on NH 33," he said. Locals also protests outside a water treatment plant in Jawahar Nagar.
