Virginia Woman, 24, Found Slain Behind the Wheel — and Police Charge Someone She Knew

New details are emerging about the mysterious death of a 24-year-old Virginia woman — but many questions remain unanswered. Emily Keene was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of her car on May 5, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke declared Keene's death to be a homicide, and soon after two arrests were made by the FCSO. On May 7, deputies announced the arrest of Corion Manns, 22, and Isaiah Witcher, 25, who have both been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Witcher and Keene were in a relationship at the time of the murder, according to an arrest warrant obtained by PEOPLE. The warrant also alleges that Witcher admitted to being in the car with Manns at the time of the crime — but claimed Manns was the one who shot arrested Manns and took both suspects into custody, where they will remain held without bond pending court proceedings, according to the FCSO. A search of state court records shows that Manns has been convicted of assault and battery in three separate cases and was sentenced to a year in prison after violating a protective order. Witcher has multiple arrests for charges of assault and battery but just one conviction, records show. His two most recent charges on that count were dismissed. Fatty liver disease: Preventative diet and some easy lifestyle tips

Whether or not you pursued dry January, stick to any healthy resolutions you made for the year ahead and consider focusing on your liver as it is key to your well-being. Bear in mind that your central metabolic organ is at risk of fatty liver disease due to an unhealthy diet, a lack of exercise and being overweight. Often people don't have any symptoms in the early stages, but may suffer from fatigue, pain in the upper right side of the abdomen and/or unexplained weight loss. If abnormal fat build-up progresses, it can cause inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), scarring (fibrosis) and, the most severe stage, cirrhosis, which can lead to fatal conditions such as liver failure and liver cancer. Fortunately, minor lifestyle changes can have a major positive effect, says the German Liver Foundation. It has a number of tips: Cut down on fat and sugar, as foods that are high in sugar, saturated fatty acids and ultra-processed put a strain on your liver. Instead, regularly eat fresh vegetables, whole-grain products and low-sugar fruits. Speaking of fruit, better to eat it than to drink it as smoothies are often high in fructose. Drink plenty of water or unsweetened tea, which helps your liver perform essential functions such as detoxifying substances harmful to your body. Coffee also has positive effects, recent studies have shown. You should avoid fizzy drinks sweetened with high concentrations of fructose. And then there's alcohol: Conscientious and moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages is crucial to your liver health. Try having regular alcohol-free days. Drinking no alcohol whatsoever is even better, the German Liver Foundation says. Make exercise part of your daily routine. It needn't be time-consuming or intensive as simply taking a walk, riding a bike to work or going up stairs rather than using a lift are all good for your health. And if you can walk around while using the phone in your office, that is another way to squeeze in a bit of additional exercise too. "Fatty liver, also known as steatotic liver disease (SLD), is one of the most underestimated health risks," says Dr. Michael P. Manns, the German Liver Foundation's executive board chairman. It's the most frequent cause of liver inflammation in the Western world. The foundation also warns of misinformation about healthy diets, particularly on social media. "Reliable and evidence-based information is of great importance, especially when it comes to the significant topic of nutrition," Manns says.

Yuengling beer fills up glasses for the first time across Illinois

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Monday was a big day for some beer drinkers. It was the first time that Yuengling was filling up glasses across the state. Bunny's Tavern was the first place in Urbana to offer it to customers. Some people got to the bar at 7 a.m. to get a free pint glass and a much-anticipated taste of the beer. 9th Annual Champaign-Urbana Area Restaurant Week celebration This came after Yuengling announced last year that they'd start distributing in Illinois. 'For the first 30 days, Yuengling will only be available in bars and restaurants,' Bunny's Tavern General Manager Ben Manns said. 'It's not going to be available in stores until, my understanding is, March 1, so until then, you have to come out to a bar or restaurant if you want some Yuengling.' Manns said it makes sense that Bunny's Tavern is the first to serve the beer in the city. That's because they are the oldest bar in Urbana and Yuengling is the oldest brewery in the country. Pia's Sports Bar in Champaign is also pouring up the beer. Yuengling said they'll be on shelves across the state in the coming weeks Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
