'TN government mulls hike in milk procurement price': Minister Mano Thangaraj

ERODE: The state government is considering increasing the milk procurement price, said State Minister for Milk and Dairy Development Mano Thangaraj in Erode on Saturday. Speaking to reporters, Thangaraj also said the state government is paying special attention to increasing the sales of Aavin. "The DMK regime increased the procurement price of milk by Rs 3. In addition, incentives of Rs 3 per litre and Rs 1 for quality milk are being given. Increasing the procurement price of milk is under consideration. We will consult with the chief minister and implement it," the Minister stated. In Tamil Nadu, 36 lakh litres of milk is procured every day. The dairy sector in Erode district is performing well. The quality-based pricing scheme has received a huge response among farmers, he added. On financial assistance, the Minister said, "Interest-free loans worth Rs 88 crore were provided to farmers in Erode district last year. In addition, steps have been taken to provide loans worth Rs 10 cr through other banks. Out of the 472 cooperative societies functioning in Erode district 72 societies have been allowed to purchase and sell dairy products for their sustainable development. Dairy products worth Rs 98 lakh have been sold by these societies." "Since 56 cooperative societies in Erode district are operating without profit, we are trying to run them profitably. We have increased the sales teams at Aavin. We are currently focusing on marketing. We are increasing the structure, procurement, and sales of Aavin," Thangaraj elaborated. Earlier, Minister Thangaraj held a meeting with Aavin officials in Erode. Collector S Kandasamy and MLA VC Chandhirakumar others were present. In response to NTK chief Seeman's apprehension that seven lakh people from Bihar who have settled in Tamil Nadu will become voters in the state, Housing and Urban Development Minister S Muthusamy, who attended the meeting with Thangaraj, said, "DMK and alliance parties are strong in Tamil Nadu. We are sure they will vote for DMK after seeing the projects in Tamil Nadu."

Seeman dragging people to Manusmriti age: Minister

Trichy: Milk and dairy development minister Mano Thangaraj has hit back at NTK coordinator Seeman for asking the govt whether toddy tapping is a shame. The minister said the question suggested that Seeman was dragging people to a 'clan-based occupation' based on Manusmriti. The minister was talking to reporters after distributing bank loans worth Rs 7.09 crore to members of the cooperative milk producers' federation in Trichy on Thursday. "Toddy is still toddy,' he said in response to Seeman's demand to lift the ban on toddy tapping. "Nobody said toddy tapping is shameful. We are following the ideology of social justice and equality. We want everybody to be educated. However, Seeman's tone indicates he is dragging people to the Manusmriti age of clan-based profession," Mano Thangaraj said. Education is a necessity, and people may do any work after completing their studies, he said, and alleged that Seeman was overstating the toddy ban. The minister said the federation members are receiving Rs3.11 crore as incentives they made from the profits. District collector V Saravanan and Srirangam MLA M Palaniyandi were also present.

Minister for Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj on Tuesday inaugurated 121 road laying works costing ₹85.36 crore in the areas falling under various town panchayats in the district. The roads are to be laid by the Department of Municipal Administration and under other special schemes for about 160.24 km in various town panchayats of the district. Inaugurating the road laying works, Mr. Mano Thangaraj said development works including laying of roads, construction of primary health centres, additional buildings in the hospitals, bridges, bus stands etc. had been taken up across the district for improving the basic infrastructure as it would indirectly boost tourism in Kanniyakumari district, which had been blessed with numerous number of tourist places. Hence, 121 road laying works had been initiated on Tuesday. The public, who were submitting petitions for redressing their personal grievances in 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps, could also draw the attention of the officials for improving other infrastructure in their area. 'While the personal grievances submitted in these camps are being redressed by the officials concerned, the district administration will take care of the general grievances like laying of roads, streamlined drinking water supply, better healthcare etc. Hence, the public should make use of the 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps being organised in their areas,' Mr. Mano Thangaraj appealed. District Collector R. Alagumeena, MLAs Rajesh Kumar, Tharahai Cathburt and senior government officials were present.
