Faridabad man takes 4 sons to railway tracks, holds screaming kids tightly as train runs over them
A 36-year-old man and his four young sons were run over by a train near the Ballabhgarh railway station in Faridabad Tuesday in a suspected act of murder-suicide. The police said he had allegedly suspected his wife of unfaithfulness based on her statement after the deaths.
Manoj Mahto, a daily-wage labourer, allegedly told his wife in the afternoon that he was taking their four young sons to a park near their house in Subhash Colony, Faridabad.
The children, aged three, six, nine and ten, were instead allegedly taken to railway tracks about 200 metres away, below the flyover under Alson Chowk around 12.30 pm. Mahot waited for the train to arrive and bought his children chips and fizzy drinks, said the police.
'The area where they were was not visible from the road. They were sitting there, 1.5 km south of the Ballabhgarh railway station. He held on tightly to the children as the Golden Temple Express arrived,' said Raj Pal, Faridabad Government Railway Police (GRP) Station House Officer.
The train ran over all of them, and the children's pleas for help went unheard, partly due to the remote location, he added.
The loco pilot issued a warning shortly after and the police reached the spot. They found the Aadhaar cards of Mahto and his wife and contacted her using the mobile number on her card.
She arrived there and reportedly fainted when she saw the bodies of her husband and sons. The bodies were taken to the Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for autopsies.
'Initial questioning revealed that he used to suspect her marital loyalty. He would see her speaking to other men on the phone and have doubts (of a possible extramarital relationship). So, as of now, the motive seems to be that,' Raj Pal said.
'There has been no FIR or complaint so far. Even the alleged motive was only mentioned by the wife. We are currently speaking with her,' said Rajesh Kumar Chechi, GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police, Faridabad.
