‘Cong will raise voiceof people'
Lucknow: All India Congress Committee in-charge for UP, Avinash Pande, on Saturday said that social justice must be the basis of organisational building. "The leadership has dedicated the year 2025 as the year of organisational building, and the structure must rest on the pillars of social justice," he said, speaking at the party's Bhagidari Nyay Mahasammelan, which was convened by Manoj Yadav, the newly appointed president of UP Congress Backward Cell. Pande assured members of various communities in the state that Congress was committed to amplifying their voice and urged them to stand by the party by taking its formal membership so that they could work for real social justice, which was being denied by the BJP govts. Cong to revive its OBC department in U.P. soon
: The Congress will soon revive its dissolved other backward classes (OBC) department in the state and elsewhere. The move comes when the party is working out a roadmap to reach out to the people to push its social justice agenda that got an impetus following the Union government's announcement to hold a caste-based enumeration as part of the next decadal census. The Congress had dissolved its state OBC department on February 27, 2025 to pave the way for reconstituting the party's front wing that works under the umbrella of the main organisation, which is also undergoing a revamp. 'We will constitute the state backward classes department in the state in the next (few) weeks. The caste census is a part of the Congress's social justice agenda being pushed for achieving the objective of having an equitable society. We will retain those who have been actively working in the past,' said Anil Jaihind, chairman of the All India Congress Committee's OBC department. Manoj Yadav, who headed the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee OBC department as its chairman at the time of dissolution, said he has been asked to continue till alternative arrangements. Yadav may be appointed UP OBC department chairman again, those aware of the development said. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee organised Thank You Rahul Gandhi celebrations for pushing the caste census agenda and compelling the Union government to announce caste-based enumeration with the next caste census. The grand old party is in the process of working out programmes to take the party's social justice agenda to the people. The Congress Working Committee, at its meeting held in New Delhi on Friday, adopted a resolution demanding quota in private educational institutions. It also urged the Union government to emulate the party's Telangana model. It resolved 'The Congress Party also demands the urgent implementation of Article 15(5) of the Constitution, which enables the provision of reservations for OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis in private educational institutions.' Congress Working Committee member Ajay Kumar Lallu said the Union government should give a timeline for completing the caste-based enumeration. He also said the party was in favour of scrapping the 50% quota cap and final touches are being given to programmes to take the party's agenda to the grass roots.

3 held for forcing school boy to pee on Pak flag
Aligarh: A video circulating on social media purportedly showing a mob surrounding a schoolboy and coercing him into urinating on a Pakistani flag lying on a road here has prompted police to launch a probe and book three people. The Aligarh district unit of the Samajwadi Party condemned the incident, which it saw as an attempt at inciting communal discord in the wake of last week's Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. In a police complaint, the 15-year-old student's family said he was returning home from the Government Inter College with friends on Monday afternoon when he noticed the flag lying on the ground. Moments later, a mob accosted the boy, demanded to know his name, started abusing him and coerced him to urinate on the flag, it stated. An FIR was registered late on Monday night at the Banna Devi police station and three accused, including one unnamed, were booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A senior police officer said the matter was under investigation and asserted that strict action would be taken against those found guilty. Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party district general secretary Manoj Yadav alleged that certain elements were trying to incite communal discord in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy. 'It is a deeply disturbing video but the incident is not an isolated one. We have received reports of similar incidents of harassment from other parts of the city. The administration must act decisively to prevent any attempts to disrupt peace,' he said.
