Lucknow: All India Congress Committee in-charge for UP, Avinash Pande, on Saturday said that social justice must be the basis of organisational building.
"The leadership has dedicated the year 2025 as the year of organisational building, and the structure must rest on the pillars of social justice," he said, speaking at the party's Bhagidari Nyay Mahasammelan, which was convened by Manoj Yadav, the newly appointed president of UP Congress Backward Cell.
Pande assured members of various communities in the state that Congress was committed to amplifying their voice and urged them to stand by the party by taking its formal membership so that they could work for real social justice, which was being denied by the BJP govts. State president Ajay Rai said that the interests of all sections would be secure only when the constitution is secure and strong. TNN

Maharashtra plans state wide events to mark 350th martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur

Malkit Singh added that the events will not only create awareness about the Guru's life and works but will also help foster love, peace and communal harmony. Fadnavis said that a special booklet on the life and values of Guru Tegh Bahadur will be published in Hindi, Punjabi, and Marathi to propagate the story of the Guru's life and sacrifice and make the new generation aware of his values. Ahmedabad plane crash: No DNA match yet for ex-Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, says hospital official; 12 bodies handed over to families so far
NEW DELHI: Authorities have not yet been able to identify the remains of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani , who was among the 241 passengers killed in Thursday's Air India Flight 171 crash. Dr Rajnish Patel, additional medical superintendent at Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, confirmed on Sunday, 'We have not yet found a DNA match for the former CM Vijay Rupani.' So far, 31 victims have been identified through DNA testing and 12 bodies handed over to families — including passengers from Udaipur, Kheda, Vadodara, Visnagar and Ahmedabad. The delay in identification has prolonged the wait for Rupani's family and supporters, even as Rajkot — his hometown — observed a half-day shutdown on Saturday to mourn his death. Shops, businesses and around 600 private and grant-in-aid schools remained shut till afternoon following an appeal by the Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Rupani, a two-time chief minister who served from 2016 to 2021, was also the BJP's in-charge for Punjab. Shivakumar and Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday visited the site of the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar locality. The crash, which occurred on June 12, claimed the lives of 260 people, leaving the nation in shock. 'Heartbreaking scenes,' he posted on social media platform X after visiting the crash site. 'My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of all the victims — those on board the aircraft and the innocent people on the ground, including young medical students. The scale of this tragedy is profound, and the nation stands united in grief.' Several senior Congress leaders accompanied Shivakumar and Kharge during the visit to the accident site, where an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI 171) crashed into a medical students' hostel building shortly after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the fatal mishap just moments after takeoff. In a bid to provide immediate relief, Air India announced an interim compensation of ₹25 lakh for the families of the deceased, in addition to the ₹1 crore payout already pledged by parent company Tata Sons. Authorities have assured that full support will be extended to the victims' families, while a detailed probe continues to uncover the circumstances behind the tragic incident.
