Mohammedan SC at bottom with fifth straight loss
Kolkata: Merely a couple of seasons ago, Mohammedan SC were looking a whole different beast, having emerged as the team to beat in local league in the post-Covid times with a hat-trick of
Calcutta Football League
titles.
That period of domination now seems to be too fleeting to be true as Mohammedan SC, instead of fighting for the championship, are increasingly facing the possibility of finding themselves in a battle for survival in the 2025-2026 season of the CFL.
The latest setback in their woeful start to the season came in the form of a 0-1 defeat former champions Peerless SC at the Naihati stadium on Monday. Manoranjan Singh struck the all-important goal in the 60th minute for Peerless.

This has been Mohammedan SC's fifth successive loss in the CFL Premier Division and, with just one point from six matches, Mehrajuddin Wadoo's team is rooted at the bottom of Group B.
On the other hand, Peerless — who had won the CFL title 2019 to become only the second team after Eastern Railway to bag the championship apart from the city's Big 3 — stay on course for advancing to the Super Six stage with four wins and three draws.

Mohammedan SC have already crashed out of the Durand Cup after losing both their matches in the group stage so far.
In Monday's other matches, Patha Chakra defeated Measurers Club 1-0 while George Telegraph and Railway FC played out a 2-2 draw.
