Border security beefed up in Meghalaya
Shillong: Meghalaya Police and other security forces have been carrying out joint checking operations to maintain law and order ahead of Independence Day , reports Manosh Das. All district police forces are maintaining a tight vigil, a a senior police officer said. The BSF, too, has launched 'Operation Alert', along the India-Bangladesh border, to ensure foolproof security. It is being carried out in close coordination with state police and other law enforcement agencies. "The operation involves intensified area domination, round-the-clock patrolling, surprise naka checks and riverine patrols to plug gaps along the border areas," a BSF statement read. Another B'deshi intruder nabbed in Meghalaya
Shillong: Another Bangladeshi intruder, belonging to an armed gang of criminals, which sneaked into the border village of Rongdangai in the South West Khasi Hills district on Aug 7 and had assaulted a local, was apprehended by security forces on Sunday, reports Manosh Das. Identified as Mubarak Hussain, he was nabbed from the Chibak forest area during a joint operation by police and the BSF . The number of Bangladeshis apprehended have now gone up to five, as four others were held on Saturday. Street vendors receive relocation allowance
Deputy CM in-charge urban affairs department, Sniawbhalang Dhar, handed over relocation allowance cheques to street vendors who have been shifted to the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority complex at Khyndai Lad in Shillong's Police Bazar area on Tuesday. In the first phase on Tuesday, 17 vendors received Rs 10,000 govt aide each, even as over 400 eligible street vendors are expected to be relocated, reports Manosh Das.

BSF evacuates critical patient from remote Meghalaya village
Shillong: In a prompt and compassionate humanitarian effort, the Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, carried out a swift medical evacuation in Umkiang, a remote village along the India-Bangladesh border, reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of border residents, reports Manosh Das. "On Aug 1, at approximately 1330 hrs, the BSF camp at Umkiang received an urgent call from Dr Evergreen Khgongjoh of Primary Health Centre Umkiang regarding a critical medical emergency. A 24-year-old local woman was experiencing severe labour pain and required immediate medical attention," the BSF said in a statement. "Responding without delay, troops of 172 Bn, BSF Meghalaya, dispatched an ambulance along with a trained nursing assistant to the location. The patient was swiftly evacuated to Jowai Civil Hospital, where she received timely and necessary medical care," the BSF said. "The efficient and humane response by BSF personnel highlights their unwavering dedication to the service and welfare of the border population," the statement issued by the BSF, Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters, here said. Global retail giant to source agri products from Meghalaya
Shillong: A high-level eight-member delegation from Lulu Group International, led by Salim MA, director, Global Operations, visited Meghalaya for a series of strategic engagements aimed at strengthening international market linkages for the state's agricultural products, reports Manosh Das. The visit follows the signing of a MoU between Lulu Group International and the Meghalaya State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) in Nov 2023 at World Food India, New Delhi. Over the past two years, MSAMB has facilitated the export of GI-tagged Khasi mandarin, pineapple and ginger through both air and sea routes. The delegation held a meeting with CM Conrad K Sangma, minister for agriculture and farmers' welfare, Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, and officials here on Monday.
