'Important, Optimistic It'll Be Functional Soon': Union Minister On Sikkim Airport
Taking a keen interest in the Pakyong airport, which serves Sikkim's capital Gangtok and has seen no flight operations for nearly two years, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita said he is optimistic that it will be functional again soon. During a visit to the Pakyong district on Friday, Mr Margherita, who is the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, took stock of development in the agriculture, education, health and civil aviation sectors. Speaking about the greenfield airport in Pakyong, Mr Margherita said, "There are some technical issues there, the officials of the Airport Authority updated me about the present status. We must thank the Prime Minister that Pakyong got an important airport. I think all the technical problems will be resolved, and the Minister for Civil Aviation and the local government are discussing this. I am optimistic that the airport will be functional soon". "Although Pakyong is a new district and is just three years old, it is making good progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay. I am optimistic that Pakyong will be one of the best districts in the coming years. We are seeing the plans and schemes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being implemented effectively," he added. On the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Nathu La pass, the minister said, "We are trying our best for overall development as well as the preservation of our culture. The Mansarovar Yatra is part of our 1,000-year-old heritage".

Mansarovar Yatra to resume this summer: China's Foreign Ministry
Beijing: China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday confirmed that the Mansarovar Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet, will resume this summer after a pause since 2020. The announcement was made as part of an agreement between China and India to advance a sound and stable bilateral relationship. "As agreed between China and India, the pilgrimage will resume this summer. Preparations are now underway on both sides," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun while addressing a regular press briefing. The Mansarovar Yatra is important to cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and India. Multiple religions consider Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar sacred, including Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism. This year's resumption of the yatra coincides with the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations. China has expressed its readiness to work with India to deliver on important common understandings and advance bilateral relations. "This year marks the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic ties. China stands ready to work with India to deliver on the important common understandings between the leaders of the two countries and advance a sound and stable bilateral relationship," the statement read. China and India have also agreed in principle to resume direct air services, and technical teams are discussing the modalities. Thousands of devotees are eagerly awaiting the reopening of the sacred pilgrimage route, which has been suspended since the COVID-19 pandemic. In a weekly media briefing on Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed that preparations are underway and a public notice will be issued soon. "The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will happen this year, and we are making preparations. We will soon issue a public notice regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. There is a possibility of resumption of the Yatra soon," added Jaiswal, offering hope to thousands of devotees awaiting the reopening of the sacred pilgrimage route.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025: Following a five year hiatus, India on Saturday, announced that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will resume from June 2025. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has not happened since 2020. Here's a look at the registration process, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route, expenses and other details. Registrations for the Mansarovar Yatra 2025 have begun, and the last date is May 13, 2025. Here are the steps to register for the Mansarovar Yatra: Step 1. Visit the official website: Step 2. Fill out the online application form with accurate details. Step 3. Upload the required documents- Recent passport-size photograph, scanned copy of a valid Indian passport Step 4. Submit the medical fitness certificate as per the official guidelines. Step 5. Pay the registration fee online. Step 6. Wait for the confirmation and selection announcement. To be eligible for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, applicants must be: citizens between the ages of 18 and 70 as of January 1, 2025. 2. Have a valid Indian passport. 3. Be physically and medically fit for the high-altitude trek, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) not exceeding 25. As per Kailash Mansarovar Yatra's official website, the pilgrims will be selected through a computer-generated, gender proportional selection process conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs. Selected yatris will be assigned to different routes and batches. During the application process, pairs of applicants may request to travel together in the same batch.
