Busy Costa Coffee drive-through at Derby retail park applies to open 24 hours a day
A major high street brand is looking to extend its opening hours at a Derby retail park. The Costa Coffee drive-through at The Meteor Centre in Mansfield Road has applied to stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, after a public notice was published in the Derby Telegraph. It added that readers have until August 26 to make representations in objection of the plans, which were first submitted by Costa Limited on July 31. The company has set out the steps it will take to ensure licensing objectives are followed, which asses the risk of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of nuisance and the protection of children from harm. "This store understands that in extending our opening hours we have a duty to the local community and that we continue to protect our staff and customers from danger and harm," a spokesperson for Costa Limited said in its application to Derby City Council. "We believe that the systems we have in place are robust, thorough and will, as far as reasonably practicable, secure the promotion of the four licensing objectives. It should be noted that no Costa Coffee store within the United Kingdom serves alcohol (excluding airports)." It added: "We are eager to work in partnership with all responsible authorities to ensure the promotion of the four licensing objectives. We also seek to work with the local communities, whom we serve, in achieving a successful cohesion between our business operations and our neighbours." The drive-through was opened in June 2018 with a special promotion that offered lucky winners a year's supply of Costa Coffee. The store itself can accommodate up to 60 customers at one time, with the drive-thru lane running clockwise from the west of the building. Major revamp approved at Nottingham's Forest Recreation Ground

Child seriously injured after being hit by car in Derby
