Denial of treatment to Ayushman beneficiaries will invite strict action: Haryana State Health Authority

The Haryana State Health Authority (SHA) Friday said that pre-authorisation claims amounting to ₹2.5 crore were received from empanelled private hospitals across all districts of the state on August 7. The SHA stated that it has not received any grievances related to refusal of treatment to any Ayushman Bharat beneficiary across any grievance portals. In a statement the SHA said that 'several empanelled hospitals' have conveyed that they are not participating in the Indian Medical Association's (IMA) call to withdraw services from August 7 under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The SHA further said that payments up to the first week of May 2025 have been cleared. 'Empanelled hospitals across the state have been reassured that all pending payments will be cleared at the earliest,' the SHA said, adding that all pending dues will be cleared in a timely and systematic manner. The SHA stated that it has not received any grievances related to refusal of treatment to any Ayushman Bharat beneficiary across any grievance portals. 'There is no valid reason for the withdrawal or disruption of services as all demands and issues have been addressed effectively. Any complaint or grievance regarding denial of treatment or imposition of charges on Ayushman beneficiaries will be dealt with strictly as per the guidelines issued by the National Health Authority (NHA) and the SHA,' the statement said.

Ayushman Bharat services suspended by 650 private hospitals in Haryana over pending dues

The Haryana chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday announced the suspension of Ayushman Bharat scheme services in the state over the issue of pending dues of empanelled hospitals despite an assurance from the state government to release the payments at the earliest. IMA's Haryana secretary Dhirender K Soni said on Thursday that the state government has failed to clear the reimbursement of private hospitals. In Haryana, the IMA represents nearly 650 private hospitals empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), a flagship scheme of the Modi government that provides a health cover of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care. The body had earlier warned that the private hospitals would stop treatment under the scheme from August 7 if pending dues were not cleared. After talks with IMA representatives on Wednesday, Haryana additional chief secretary (Health) Sudhir Rajpal had appealed to them to reconsider their decision. IMA's Haryana secretary Dhirender K Soni said on Thursday that the state government has failed to clear the reimbursement of private hospitals. 'The government itself admits that ₹490 crore in dues are pending. By the time they will disperse this amount, the pendency will keep on increasing,' Soni said. 'What will private hospitals do? How can they sustain if they do not get reimbursements on time?' he said. Soni said that talks were held on Wednesday with senior state government officials, but it did not yield the desired outcome. The issue of pending dues and prolonged delay in payments to private hospitals for the past several months was brought to their notice, he said. After the meeting, the Haryana chapter of IMA held a virtual meeting with the private empanelled hospitals under the Ayushman scheme and later it was decided to suspend the services from midnight (beginning August 7), he said. Earlier on Tuesday, the Haryana government had said that the claims of empanelled hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat scheme are being settled. On Wednesday, Rajpal, held a detailed meeting with representatives of the IMA, Haryana, to address their concerns regarding delayed payments under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. An official statement said that Rajpal assured them that the state government is actively releasing payments to the empanelled hospitals and remains fully committed to resolving all outstanding issues. During the meeting, Rajpal gave a patient hearing to the delegation and acknowledged the challenges faced by the medical fraternity. He reiterated the government's commitment to clearing all pending dues under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana at the earliest. Rajpal had on Wednesday appealed to the IMA representatives and urged them to reconsider their decision on suspending the service, emphasising that such action could disrupt essential healthcare services, particularly for economically weaker sections of society. 'We understand your concerns, and we are working to address them. However, a strike would adversely affect thousands of poor patients who depend on the scheme for timely and affordable treatment,' Rajpal had said. The government maintains that the state health agency (SHA), Haryana, has already processed and paid claims submitted by empanelled hospitals up to the first week of May 2025. During the financial year 2025-26, up to July 16, ₹240.63 crore has been received from the state and central governments and fully utilised for the settlement of eligible claims.

Ayushman Bharat services start at private hospital in Delhi

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched Ayushman Bharat services at Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. At an event to mark Cancer Survivor Month, Gupta also inaugurated a new 3D digital mammography unit and announced a major push toward preventive care for women. The hospital will offer 10,000 free cancer screenings — 5,000 mammography and 5,000 Pap smear tests — as part of a women's health campaign. The move enables eligible patients to access free cancer care under the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which provides health insurance cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year to vulnerable populations. 'This unit is specially designed for the early detection of breast cancer in women, enabling timely treatment. Equipped with fully digital technology, it ensures quick and accurate diagnosis using the latest medical equipment. Cancer is a disease that causes emotional turmoil for entire families when it strikes. However, advancements in medical science today have made early detection and effective treatment possible,' Gupta said. To improve outreach, the hospital also announced the rollout of a mobile diagnostic van equipped with mammography and lab services. It will travel across Delhi to underserved areas, offering clinical breast exams, cervical cancer screening, and lifestyle counselling. Ayushman Bharat is a flagship health scheme of the government aimed at achieving health coverage. On April 5, an MoU was inked with the Union ministry of health and family welfare to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). With this, Delhi has become the 35th state to adopt the scheme. Dr Emmanuel Rupert, managing director and group CEO of Narayana Health, said the new initiatives aim to combine advanced technology with strong community outreach to improve early detection.

Over 5,000 beneficiaries in Delhi receive Ayushman Bharat health insurance cards

Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Delhi Lok Sabha member Kamaljeet Sahrawat on Sunday distributed Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) cards to over 5,000 beneficiaries. AB PM-JAY, the Central government's health insurance scheme, was rolled out in the Capital last month with the first batch of beneficiaries receiving the health cards. The ruling BJP made its implementation in the Capital one of its key promises in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly poll. Under AB PM-JAY, 6.5 lakh families will receive ₹5 lakh health cover per family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation, with the Delhi government providing an additional ₹5 lakh cover from its own funds. Moreover, senior citizens aged 70 and above are entitled to health care coverage of ₹10 lakh under another scheme, Pradhan Mantri Vay Vandana Yojana. Attacking the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, Mr. Sood said lakhs of Delhiites were 'deprived of quality health care services' as the former government 'deliberately stalled' the Centre's public welfare schemes. Ms. Singh, who distributed the health cards in Vikaspuri, west Delhi, said illness will no longer be a financial burden on Delhi residents as they can now access medical care at empanelled hospitals not just in the Capital but across the country. 'This scheme guarantees both accessibility and quality of treatment. It is not just a health protection initiative but also a step towards restoring dignity and confidence in every family,' she added.
