Tri-County Urban League marks 60 years with Black & White Gala

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) –The Tri-County Urban League (TCUL) holds its 24th Annual Black & White Gala to celebrate 60 years of empowering communities and changing lives in the Peoria Tri-County community, April 12, at Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino. Felisa Jordan Durr the President and CEO of The Tri-County Urban League, stopped by WMBD This Morning to explain more about it. The Tri-County Urban League is one of 92 affiliates across the country and this year's gala includes a message from the national president of the organization, Marc Morial, and the emcee of the evening is Marcus Hamilton from the Yani Collective. The league provides many programs for youth including Financial Literacy, Workforce Empowerment, Violence Prevention, Entrepreneurship and the recently added, Drama Program. The event will also take time to honor some long-serving employees. The gala begins with cocktail hour at 6 p.m., and the program follows at 7 p.m., at the Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino, and tickets start at $125. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Urban League hosts 60th Anniversary

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — On Valentine's Day, the Urban League of Rochester brought back its annual gala calling it the Love and Legacy Gala. Dr. Seanelle Hawkins, the President and CEO of the Urban League explained it's the first gala in sixteen years. 'We're just thrilled the community chose to love on us on Valentine's Day and this is a sold-out affair, and we couldn't be more grateful.' The President and CEO of the National Urban League, Marc Morial delivered the keynote address during the event at the Rochester Convention Center. Speakers including Mayor Malik Evans, issued a call to action and emphasized the need to support the Urban League and its programs. Several community leaders including the former CEOs of the Urban League, William A. Johnson, Jr. and William G. Clark were honored along with Essie Calhoun-McDavid, Emerson U. Fullwood and Robert Duffy. For sixty years the Urban League has been a strong advocate for the underserved. Some of the services include programs for first time homebuyers and young people.
