Mohali Deputy Commissioner reviews first day of Independence Day rehearsals
Mohali (Punjab) [India], August 11 (ANI): Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal on Monday reviewed the first day of rehearsals for the Independence Day celebrations at Shaheed (Shaurya Chakra) Major Harminder Pal Singh Government College, Phase 6, the performances of students, NCC cadets, and school band teams, Mittal urged participants to present the cultural programme in a way that embodies national pride, promotes harmony and peace, and conveys a strong message of unity and integrity. She noted that India's rich and diverse culture has consistently safeguarded the nation's in a meeting with officials from various departments, the Deputy Commissioner assessed preparations and reiterated the need for a proactive approach to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. She announced that Punjab Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Dairy Development Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian will be the Chief Guest on August 15. The final rehearsal (dry run) is scheduled for August 13 at 9:00 year's celebrations will feature tableaux highlighting the state's flagship programmes and welfare schemes, alongside the traditional March Past and cultural performances. Students from G.D. Goenka Public School, Satluj World Public School, St. Stephen's School, Paragon School, Shiwalik Public School, and The Millennium School will present the cultural March Past will include NCC cadets from Government College, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Laxmi Tara Rathore Public School, and Mata Sahib Kaur Public School, along with school bands from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sohana, and School of Eminence, Phase 3B1. Top pipers to perform at free event in Renfrewshire
Renfrew's Robertson Park will host the Renfrew Pipe Band Competition on Saturday, July 19. This free-to-attend event will begin at 10am and will feature a full day of family entertainment, including children's activities, inflatables, and local trader stalls. Spectators can enjoy the performances throughout the day, with the March Past scheduled for 5.30pm followed by the prize-giving ceremony. This year, the event's Chieftain will be Tom Johnston, former president of Renfrew Football Club and the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce. "The competition is shaping up to be a fantastic day and I wish all the best to those taking part." There will be no public parking available at the event, but free parking is available a five-minute walk away at St James Primary School, Brown Street. Changing the Guard honours last Battle of Britain pilot Paddy Hemingway
The Changing the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace has honoured the last Battle of Britain pilot, John 'Paddy' Hemingway, following his death at the age of 105. Group Captain Hemingway, originally from Dublin, was the final surviving member of 'The Few', who took to the skies in 1940 to defend the UK against Luftwaffe attacks in what became a pivotal moment of the Second World War.
