Chelsea hold further talks with AC Milan over goalkeeper Mike Maignan - as Blues look to push through a deal before 'special' transfer window shuts
Chelsea are continuing to discuss a fee with AC Milan for Mike Maignan after offering £12.6m. The Blues have stepped up their interest in the France No 1 in recent days and want to get a deal over the line before the 'special' transfer window closes on Tuesday evening so that he can play in the Club World Cup. However, they are yet to meet the asking price that Milan are demanding in order to let Maignan leave. It is understood that Milan want around £20m for Maignan, who has one year remaining on his contract at San Siro. Chelsea may be struggling to wrap up a deal for Maignan, but they did complete the signing of defender Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg for £12m on Monday morning. That took the club's spending this summer to £60m already, having finalised moves for Liam Delap and highly-rated Sporting Lisbon prospect Dario Essugo. Meanwhile, current Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli is in talks to join Manchester City as a replacement for Scott Carson. Carson is leaving City upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the month after a six-year stay at the Etihad. He has played just 108 minutes of football for City, having found himself behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega in the pecking order.

Manchester City interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli
Manchester City are interested in signing goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea. Pep Guardiola's side are in the market for a new third-choice goalkeeper following the departure of Scott Carson, who spent six seasons at the Etihad. Bettinelli's only appearance across four seasons at Chelsea was the 5–1 FA Cup third round victory over National League side Chesterfield in January 2022. The 33-year-old former Fulham goalkeeper, who has a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, is now on the radar of City, where he is expected to be behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega in the pecking order. There is the possibility that Ederson, their first-choice goalkeeper of the past eight years, could depart City this summer which would prompt them to go into the market for a first-choice goalkeeper. However, Guardiola appeared to confirm that Ederson and Ortega would stay at City beyond this season, when speaking in Girona last week at the Camiral PGA Catalunya. Advertisement 'I think the two goalkeepers we have, Ederson and Stefan, will be staying,' Guardiola said. 'So, we are happy with what we have.' Chelsea currently have Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Lucas Bergstrom and Djordje Petrovic — who spent last season on loan at Strasbourg — on their books, while Mike Penders has joined from Genk. Man City cult hero Scott Carson to leave club – with Chelsea keeper eyed to replace him
Manchester City are ready to make a move for Marcus Bettinelli, Chelsea's third-choice goalkeeper, following the departure of long-serving cult hero Scott Carson. Bettinelli, 33, has been targeted as the right profile to support a goalkeeper stable led by Ederson, with hopes of a deal before the transfer window closes on Tuesday for Club World Cup teams to sign players for the tournament. The Chelsea goalkeeper would cost a small fee compared to City's current summer moves for Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouri. He has been at Stamford Bridge for four seasons and played just once, yet is recognised by managers as having an important part in the squad for pushing team-mates in training. Bettinelli is also homegrown, which helps with City's quotas for the Premier League and Champions League next season. His only game for Chelsea came in 2022 when he played against Chesterfield in the FA Cup. Earlier in his career he was a regular at Fulham and earned a call-up to the England squad in 2018 under Gareth Southgate, although is uncapped. Carson is leaving the Etihad Stadium after six years at the club following an initial loan. His career has included a Champions League medal in 2023 although he was always back-up to Pep Guardiola's first-choice. 'I've loved every minute of it,' said Carson during a rare interview in 2021. 'Obviously, in my head and all through my career, I've wanted to play, and coming here, I knew that wasn't going to be the case. And I knew it was going to be very difficult to play any games.' City are trying to finalise deals for the squad to be ready for the Club World Cup, with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admitting they were not aggressive enough in the market a year ago and paid the price.

Chelsea star locked in neighbour row over plans to axe 40ft trees and build cinema & games room at his luxury home
CHELSEA goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has kicked off a row with neighbours after chopping down huge 40ft trees at his Surrey mansion. The Blues' stopper was given the go-ahead to extend his luxury pad near the club's Cobham training ground - complete with a cinema and games room. 4 4 Planners at the local council told him he could chop down two trees to make way for the proposed development but neighbours say he has razed more to the ground - without permission. They claim the 30-40ft trees are decades old, although not protected by a Tree Preservation Order, and help prevent overlooking on the leafy estate. The former Fulham goalkeeper was initially granted planning permission for a front and rear extension including a ground floor family room, kitchen and breakfast room and cinema. He also wants to demolish a porch and chimney stack and add dormer windows for a fourth bedroom and games room on the second floor. Documents filed at Elmbridge Borough Council state that building work started last year but has not yet been completed. Bettinelli, 32, has now submitted amended plans for tree planting and landscaping to allow for the removal of trees. In a letter of objection, one resident wrote: "The initial proposal for 'bush and hedge pruning' turned into the felling of multiple 30ft trees, decades old. "This has significantly affected local wildlife (there were documented owls nesting) and privacy/light shading of multiple properties around. "The new proposal to replace four trees is well short of any remedial measure in my view and should be significantly enhanced." Chaos at Stamford Bridge as Djurgarden fans jump over barriers and clash in away end against Chelsea Another neighbour wrote: "More hedging has been removed to erect the fence. "This was not done by the neighbouring property. "And versus the previous plan, there is now less commitment to hedging than before. "As a reminder, 30-40ft trees were cut down without permission. "There should be no reduction in commitment shown on the plan versus the one before." Bettinelli joined Chelsea in 2021 to boost the Blues' goalkeeping ranks following the departure of Willy Caballero, having been out of contract at Fulham. He spent a decade at Craven Cottage, making 120 appearances for the Whites and also represented England 's under-21 team earlier in his career. The 6ft,4in stopper bought his Cobham pad for £1.5million in September, 2023, before applying for a Grand Designs-style makeover. In another objection, the local residents' association said it was "saddened and deeply concerned that the developer, architect and builder have breached the conditions imposed on the allowed application". They added: "Mature trees provide benefits to humans and wildlife alike, trees also provide wildlife corridors to and from the surrounding green spaces, woods, commons and heathland of Cobham. "Trees also provide screening to neighbours' properties and garden amenity spaces which they should be able to continue the enjoyment of using for everyday activity without the perception of overlooking." Council officials are expected to make a decision on the trees later this month. Bettinelli's planning agent was approached for comment. 4
