Grand jury indicts suspect after MNPD investigation into 2024 fatal shooting

A Davidson County grand jury has indicted 21-year-old James Johnson following an investigation into a slaying last year at an apartment complex along Harding Place, Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news release. Johnson faces a first-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Marcus Martin. Martin was returning to the apartment complex on July 27, 2024, when shots were fired at him while in his Nissan Altima. Police said the car crashed into a tree and came to rest in a driveway. Nashville police said robbery is a possible motive. Johnson was already in jail at the time of the indictment. He faces charges of attempted criminal homicide in two other cases related to a shooting in Hermitage last year and a car crash and shooting on Briley Parkway in 2023. Bond in the latest case was set at $5 million. This article originally appeared on Nashville Tennessean: Grand jury indicts suspect in 2024 fatal shooting of 41-year-old
