New Orleans woman found living with mummified body of her son for months, authorities launch investigation
Authorities in New Orleans have launched an investigation after the mummified remains of a 600-pound man were discovered inside a Lakeview home, where his mother had allegedly been living with the body for at least nine months. The woman, identified as Barbara Hainsworth, was described as a 'mentally disabled elderly woman,' according to a report by citing a citation filed with the city's Healthy Homes Administration. Officials described the home as being 'filled with garbage, chickens, roosters, rats,' reported. Code enforcement officers and New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) personnel were met with shocking scenes of extreme hoarding and unsanitary conditions. Public records indicate that neighbours had filed multiple complaints over several months, citing the deteriorating state of the property and an increase in vermin, WDSU reported. Hainsworth, a former doctor who reportedly lost her medical licence approximately a decade ago, responded calmly when asked about the body inside her home. 'That's my son. He died about nine months ago,' she reportedly told officers. The deceased man, whose name has not been publicly released, was said to have suffered from multiple medical conditions, according to Hainsworth. His body was found severely decomposed and mummified. 'A Code Enforcement investigator was immediately dispatched to the property. DCE's investigation revealed horrific conditions, including the remains of a mummified male body and evidence of extreme hoarding conditions, along with mounds of trash in and around the property,' a city statement read. The Department of Code Enforcement (DCE) condemned the home as a health hazard, but officials stated that there are currently no plans for demolition. 'DCE informed its demolition contractor to be on standby to perform an assessment to clean up and remove the trash and seal the hole in the bathroom floor. The property was also scheduled to be boarded by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD),' the statement continued. A mobile crisis unit was dispatched to evaluate her mental health. According to a report by People, she has not been arrested or charged, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Construction underway on downtown Brandon parking lot
BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Leaders announced construction is underway on a new parking lot in downtown Brandon. The lot will accommodate 48 vehicles at the corner of Dining and Poindexter Streets. Tornado wreaks havoc on Grace community, leaving homes in ruin 'With the businesses coming into downtown—six restaurants and expecting more soon—employees have to have a place to park, and when we have big events like the Christmas Parade, the Mardi Gras Parade, a street dance…we just need more (parking),' said Brandon Mayor Butch Lee. 'So we're going to continue to invest in the infrastructure that supports people coming into downtown and supporting our shops and restaurants.' Dirt work was completed last week, and paving was underway March 17. Officials said the lot could be striped by the end of this week. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Winter Carnival to bring the Ellicottville community together this weekend
ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — Even though the clocks spring forward this weekend, there's still time for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville. They have events planned all month long, including this weekend with their Winter Carnival. 'We'll see thousands of people there this weekend,' said Dash Hegeman, Director of Marketing with Holiday Valley. 'It's a little weather dependent, but even when the weather is not perfect, people come out for this.' From live music, to their annual snow bar, to face painting, ice cream socials, and skiing competitions, there are events planned for all ages on Saturday and Sunday. With the consistent cold temperatures and around 180 inches of snowfall so far this season, Hegeman says this winter has been night and day compared to the last two. 'I would encourage anyone that hasn't been happy with this winter to start skiing and snowboarding and then they'll be happy with it because it has been fantastic,' Hegeman said. 'When we're successful, the village is successful and vice versa. We're stoked to be able to do our part to bring people into this Western New York community.' 'Our goal is to bring people into Ellicottville, we want them to stay the weekend, we want them to shop, we want them to dine, we want them to come down during the week too and make a whole vacation out of it because we are a resort and destination,' Barb Pump, executive director of Ellicottville's Chamber of Commerce said. The Chamber of Commerce says their village Mardi Gras weekend traditions, including the Mardi Gras parade, started more than 25 years ago, to bring people into Ellicottville, promote the businesses, and bring the whole community together. 'Holiday Valley Ski Patrol does a collection for the food pantry, and this year–there's going to be a boot collection for Zach Golley, there was a tragedy that happened,' said Pump. 'They are going to be out there this weekend on Saturday, collecting funds for his wife Emily and their daughter Bailey.' Pump says anyone who cannot make it to the parade, but would like to donate, should call the Village of Ellicotville for more information, or donate to the GoFundMe page. The village's annual Mardi Gras Parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. For more information on the Mardi Gras and Winter Carnival activities, visit the Chamber of Commerce website here. Eunice Mardi Gras 2025
EUNICE, La. (KLFY) — Rain, sleet, hail or snow, Eunice said Mardi Gras was a go. 'There's two things you don't cancel, Christmas and Eunice Mardi Gras,' Andrew Miller of Eunice said. Andrew and his wife Kylie Jo Miller said they run the Courir De Mardi Gras every year. 'It doesn't matter what the weather is,' Kylie said. 'I'm going to run.' Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Darren D'Aubin of Eunice said the tradition is Catholic based, stemming from Carnival that was celebrated by wealthier people. 'They threw beads, had big, fancy parties before the 40 days of fasting of Lent,' D'Aubin said. 'However, the poor workers on the farms and stuff couldn't do that. They took rice sacks, tore them up, shredded them up and made costumes, so nobody could recognize who they were. They wanted to have some type of party as well.' He said that is where the tradition of begging for gumbo ingredients originated from. 'If by chance a family didn't want to donate or give something, they would dance in the front yard and distract them,' he said. 'They would go around the back, and they would steal chickens. And that's the beginning of the chicken run, so while they distracted the people in the front, the Mardi Gras's would go in the back and chase the chicken and catch it to put in a gumbo.' Even today, Eunice was chasing chickens. Amy Marcantel of Eunice said all of these traditions are the reason she continues to participate every year. 'Just embracing our heritage,' Marcantel said. 'I've done it for so many years. It's addictive. It's really addictive.' Matthew Daville from Eunice said he hasn't run in about 15 years, coming back this year with his wife Lauren, who is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 'I remember getting pulled on the trash can lid behind a horse,' Matthew said. 'And I was riding the trash can lid downtown on Second Street.' Kate Lengyel of Texas said she came run Eunice Mardi Gras, 'Because this is the best Mardi Gras there is.'
