Louisiana AG confident remaining jailbreak fugitives will be recaptured after officials make 14th arrest
New Orleans authorities have arrested a total of 14 people in connection with a mass jailbreak on May 16 and re-arrested eight of the 10 Orleans Parish escapees. Two fugitives — domestic abuse suspect Antoine T. Massey and four-time convicted killer Derrick Groves — remain at large. "I am absolutely confident that they will be recaptured, and we just are going to continue our very methodical work to get them back in custody," Attorney General Liz Murrill told Fox News on Thursday, adding that Massey and Groves are both considered "armed and dangerous." Officials this week announced the arrests of Massey's sister, 31-year-old Daishanae Massey, and two other women, Lenika Vanburen and Diamond White. All are accused of helping the escaped inmates, who removed a toilet from a wall in a cell and crawled through the hole it created. 4 Arrested For Allegedly Aiding Escaped Inmates In New Orleans The eight inmates who have been re-arrested include Lenton Vanburen Jr., Leo Tate, Jermaine Donald, Corey Boyd, Robert Moody, Gary C. Price, Dkenan Dennis and Kendall Myles. Read On The Fox News App The 11 others charged in connection with helping them escape include Patricia Vanburen, Tyshanea "Minnie" Randolph, Lenton Vanburen Sr., Angel McKey, Emmitt Weber, Trevon Williams, Casey Smith, Sterling Williams, Connie Weeden, Corvanntay Baptiste and Cortnie Harris. "I think they were sympathetic. I mean, some of them are relatives of some of the escapees," Murrill said Thursday. "I mean, these individuals are reaching out to people they know and seeking assistance, and we are going to arrest and prosecute anyone who we find is assisting them." A New Orleans jury last October found Groves guilty of two counts of second-degree murder after he killed two men on Mardi Gras in 2024. He later pleaded guilty to two manslaughter charges in two other killings. Inmate Arrested In Connection With Orleans Justice Center Escape Groves, already serving two life sentences for the Mardis Gras murders, was awaiting his sentencing for the manslaughter charges when he escaped the Orleans Justice Center. His aunt, Jasmine Groves, is calling on him to turn himself in. "I'm praying to the Lord that he is protected, and I pray that they don't try to kill him," she told FOX 8 New Orleans. Murrill told Fox News' John Roberts there is "always the possibility" that Groves and Massey could be traveling out of state. Jasmine Groves told the outlet that her nephew has been stabbed three times in jail, and she noted that the inmates would have never been able to escape had the correctional facility been staffed properly. Former New Orleans Police Chief Criticizes Sheriff's 'Checkered Past' After Jailbreak The other escaped inmates, some of whom are charged with violent offenses, were being held in a minimum-custody site at the Orleans Parish facility. The jail is only at 60% staffing, and at the time of the escape, four supervisors and 36 staff members were monitoring 1,400 inmates, authorities said. Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson on Thursday called for a long-term investment in plumbing upgrades at the Orleans Justice Center ahead of hurricane season, noting issues with flooding and "severe plumbing issues." "These recurring plumbing issues highlight a much deeper infrastructure crisis at OJC, rooted in years of deferred maintenance, chronic overcrowding, and a lack of meaningful investment," Hutson said in a Thursday statement. "This is not just a facilities problem. It's a public safety issue, a staffing issue, and most of all, a human dignity issue. We are responsible for providing safe, stable, and humane conditions for everyone in our custody and working inside that building." Hutson announced a temporary suspension of her re-election campaign in a statement on May 21. "As I said today, I take full accountability for the breach that occurred under my leadership," Hutson said. "I am grateful to the community, our law enforcement partners and city and state leaders for helping us to secure the Orleans Justice Center and capture the remaining escapees." Louisiana Jail Worker Arrested For Allegedly Helping 10 Inmates Escape Orleans Parish Facility "We've taken immediate action, including suspensions, an arrest and full cooperation with the attorney general's investigation." She added there is "a long road ahead" for her "to be fully satisfied that the [Orleans Justice Center] and my deputies have the proper resources to perform their duties to the fullest extent the people of New Orleans deserve." Louisiana Governor Blasts 'Progressive Promises' After New Orleans Jail Escape "As such, I am temporarily suspending my re-election campaign. I cannot spend a moment putting politics over your needs," she said. "Now is the time to focus on security, accountability, and public safety. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with other agencies and community organizations to hear your valuable input and make necessary changes." WATCH: Stunning video shows New Orleans inmates escaping Anyone found aiding an escapee will be charged as an accomplice, according to New Orleans authorities. The FBI is offering rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the escaped inmates. Crime Stoppers is also offering a $2,000 reward per inmate. A violent offender warrant squad is searching for the escapees, along with the FBI and U.S. Marshals. More than 200 law enforcement officers are assisting with the search. Arcade Fire Return With ‘Pink Elephant,' First Album in Three Years, New Single and Video
Arcade Fire Return With 'Pink Elephant,' First Album in Three Years, New Single and Video Arcade Fire, who have kept a low profile since multiple sexual misconduct allegations were leveled against frontman Win Butler in 2022, will return on May 9 with their seventh studio album, 'Pink Elephant,' released on Columbia Records. The 10-track album is preceded by the single and video 'Year of the Snake,' embedded below. Comprising 10 new songs 'of cinematic mystical punk,' according to the announcement, the album was produced by Butler, his wife and bandmate Régine Chassagne and Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris) and was recorded at the band's Good News Recording Studio in New Orleans. ADVERTISEMENT More from Variety While the announcement states that the term 'pink elephant' refers to 'that paradoxical effect where the effort to suppress a thought leads to it being impossible to avoid,' it does not mention that the term is also an old-school reference to alcoholism-induced hallucinations. The song references 2025 being the Lunar Year of the Snake, 'which represents a time for renewal, positive transformation and new beginnings,' and the video prominently features Butler and Chassagne being affectionate and playfully romping around New Orleans during Mardis Gras and a Houston rodeo with Jeremy Gara, Tim Kingsbury and Richard Reed Parry, and briefly visiting with Willie Nelson at his Texas ranch. The release is also accompanied by the band's 'Circle of Trust' app, which features Arcade Fire news, music, videos, early access to tickets, exclusive merch, and the premiere episode of 'Santa Pirata Radio,' where the band speak directly to fans. It also includes the exclusive release of the track 'Cars and Telephones' and its accompanying video. According to the announcement, this previously unreleased track was the composition that Butler ever played for Chassagne. ADVERTISEMENT The new release appears to reflect a concerted effort to move on from the 2022 allegations, for which Butler apologized while maintaining that the five relationships were consensual. In the coming days Arcade Fire will announce special gigs in select cities where the band will perform the new album in its entirety prior to its release. 'Pink Elephant' tracklist: 1. Open Your Heart or Die Trying 2. Pink Elephant 3. Year of the Snake 4. Circle of Trust 5. Alien Nation 6. Beyond Salvation 7. Ride or Die 8. I Love Her Shadow 9. She Cries Diamond Rain 10. Detroit's culture and mythology on display during Marche du Nain Rouge
Spring technically started on March 21, but many in Metro Detroit know it's not really spring until the Marche du Nain Rouge in the Cass Corridor neighborhood. "I love seeing everybody express themselves with their fabulous costumes and coming out to support Detroit," a spectator said. Nain Rouge is a mythical creature, meaning "red dwarf" in French, whose appearance is said to be a sign of doom in Detroit. The event has brought thousands of people to Midtown every year since 2010 with an annual outdoor celebration of the city's culture and mythology. "This is about chasing the devil out of the city and chasing the curse away. It is an incredible experience," Brent Charles from Eastpointe said. Music started around 11:30 a.m. and a parade followed throughout Cass Corridor with around 10,000 people, and it flowed right into an afterparty outside the Masonic Temple. The parade displayed a never-ending amount of eccentric costumes and vehicles with everyone making sure to boo at the Nain Rouge. "It's proof the city is definitely alive," Garo Danayan from Huntington Woods said. "It's cool to be a part of and it's stuff like this that makes Detroit special and it's cool to be down here." Ferndale resident Sean Ryan shared similar sentiments. "Wild outfits, wild people, but everybody showing out for the community is always great," Ryan said. Eric Sands has been coming to the parade every year since it began. "It's just fun vibes," Sands said. "It's family-oriented and we have all different kinds of people out. It's just like New Orleans in Detroit — Mardis Gras — but we're chasing the red devil out."

Soulard's Mardi Gras wraps up another successful year
ST. LOUIS – Mardi Gras in Soulard brought thousands of people together for one of the biggest celebrations of the year. With beautiful weather, it was the perfect day to throw some beads and enjoy the festivities at the event that brings in $25 million for the city. 'I'd like to thank everyone who came to Soulard for coming down and having a great time, but especially for celebrating responsibly,' said Bess McCoy, who planned and executed this Soulard Mardi Gras celebration. Chief Robert J. Tracy of the SLMPD added, 'What a great day today! Mardis Gras, the weather cooperating, but most of all putting the planning together.' PHOTOS: Mardi Gras parade takes over St. Louis The highlight of the day? The Bud Light Grand Parade on Saturday morning, featuring 80 units rolling through Soulard for just under two hours. And while the crowds were big, police say things remained safe and fun. By Saturday afternoon, there were no major incidents, and any minor issues were quickly resolved. And when the parade wrapped up, the party continued with two major headliners: Mitchell Tenpenny in the Bud Light tent and EDM legend Fischer taking over the Carnival tent. To keep things under control, outdoor liquor sales ended at 6 p.m., and bars and restaurants shut their doors at 11:30 p.m. McCoy explained that as soon as outdoor liquor sales close, the cleaning crews start right away to return the neighborhood back to a neighborhood by early Sunday morning. SLMPD encouraged visitors to travel via rideshare if possible. 'We have enough officers out there making sure that we're going to make everything safe throughout the night and we just ask for everyone's cooperation.' Tracy stated, 'All the people that came here, we want you to get home safely. We want to make sure you still have a good time but let's do it responsibly.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
