Déjà Vu: Sodashi's White Half-Sister Marga Impresses On Debut

Déjà Vu: Sodashi's White Half-Sister Marga Impresses On Debut originally appeared on Paulick Report. Racegoers at Hadokate Racecourse in Hadokate, Japan, might have experienced déjà vu as they watched a white filly streak to victory in a 1,800 meters (about 1 ⅛ miles) newcomer race on July 12, reported NetKeiba. Advertisement The debuting 2-year-old filly Marga won gate-to-wire in 1:48.1 over the turf, setting a juvenile course record, in the very same race her older champion half-sister Sodashi won on debut five years ago. Marga looks much like her half-sister. Both appear fully white from nose to tail, with no bay splotches like their mother, Buchiko. "I'm relieved, you don't see 1.1 odds very often,' said jockey Yutaka Take. 'She's still a bit tricky in her mouth, but her talent is obvious. I think she'll be aimed at major mile races." Trainer Naosuke Sugai, who also trained Sodashi, said the Grade 3 Artemis Stakes on Oct. 25 at Tokyo Racecourse is the next major target. Marga is sired by the multiple G1 winner Maurice. She is a half sister to Sodashi (Kurofune), the first white winner of a G1 race and champion 2-year-old filly of Japan in 2020, and bay G1 winner Mama Cocha (Kurofune). Buchiko has a white yearling filly and a white weanling filly, both by Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner New Year's Day.
