Thengapattinam fishing boat loses signal off Maharashtra coast

: A mechanised boat with registration number IND-TN-15-MM-10579, which had ventured from Thengapattinam fishing harbour with around 10 members on board has allegedly reported to have lost its satellite phone contact off the Maharashtra coast. Families of the fishermen have raised concerns over the anticipated cyclonic formation in the Arabian sea. Mariadhasi, wife of Thomas, one of the crew members of the boat, said that they had not spoken to Thomas since they left. She added that although the boat's location could still be tracked, they had been unable to establish contact with the crew. They fear that the boat should reach the nearest coast before the south west monsoon intensifies. Justin Antony, president of INFIDET said that a SOS had been sent to the Defence Ministry, Home Ministry, Tamil Nadu State Fisheries Department and district administration, urging them to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of fishermen, before the monsoon worsens.
