Mayo pub voted Traditional Bar of the Year at 2025 Irish Bar of the Year Awards
The west Mayo watering hole, which has one several awards and is well-known for its live music, received the award at a ceremony in the Clayton Hotel in Dublin.
The Bridge Street premises is run by Joe and Marian O'Malley, who also run Cosy Joe's bar across the road from the Porter House, and the Barrel & Castle in Castlebar. The O'Malleys are also due to reopen Henehan's Bar on Bridge Street in a number of weeks' time.
'It is a traditional looking bar, and it is a bar that has aged really well,' Joe O'Malley said regarding the Traditional Bar of the Year award.
'It's not just a bar. There's a good atmosphere to it and there's a nice vibe to it.'
Two other Mayo bars received awards at this year's Irish Bar of The Year Awards ceremony. The Prince of Wales Bar at Ashford Castle received a silver award in the 5 Star Hotel Bar of the Year category while Flannery's Bistro in Ballinrobe won bronze in the Best Wine Bar category.
Jill Thornton, Senior Event Manager for the Irish Bar of the Year Awards, commended the winners for excelling in 'an exceptionally challenging landscape'.
